That's a bold statement. Most people hate this place. Its a hassle to get to because its right off I-66 which is usually jammed with evening DC rush hour traffic and the parking lot is shit. Its all unpaved, dirt, gravel, and grass fields.
The band has only played here once before. July 1, 2003, and Eddie lamented that he wished they were at Merriweather Post Pavilion, the amphitheater north of DC in Maryland. Traffic was so slow coming in during that gig that they purposely opened with slower numbers to give everyone a chance to get to their seats.
The place was built in 1995 and christened by the Village People. Nissan gave up the naming rights earlier this year. Leroi Moore of DMB played his final gig in this amphitheater. Radiohead played an infamous gig in 2008 on Mother's Day where a weekend monsoon brought torrential rain that flooded one of the only roads leading in. The gig was miserably cold for May and fans were stranded in the parking lots until 2 AM trying to get out.
The amphitheater is behind a massive hill known as Stone Ridge. Hearing soundcheck is somewhat difficult, but if you're on the far left side of the parking lots facing the hill you can hear stuff coming off the stage. Security is fairly strict in the lots about tailgaters, but at recent gigs I've attended they haven't bothered with pat-downs upon entering. I guess it all depends on the crowd.
Hopefully it'll be a kick ass gig. Its right in the middle of the tour, so it seems reasonable to think Eddie's voice will have warmed up by then and that the setlist will be even better than last time.

thats pretty much what i remember, i showed up around 3 30 and was told with out a fan club letter, i wasnt allowed into the parking lot, so i had to go find a place to hang out until 5 or so, and the band was definitley not thrilled with the place
but should still be a great show

I have to admit I've had my share of nightmares trying to get in and out of this place, but the past few years haven't been too bad. I think some of the new roads and expanded parking lot have helped a lot. Plus once you're in the pavilion it's always been great for me. The views are good no matter where you are and the sound is great. I've only been out on the lawn once, way in the back. That wasn't so good. You're pretty far away from the stage at that point, and can barely see or hear anything.
I just think it'll be a nice change from the Verizon center in DC. I've had good times there too, but thought the last PJ show there was really noisy. Plus with all the trouble METRO rail's been having lately, I'm not feeling real confident about counting on it for transportation. Actually, now that I think about it, trying to get home from there in '08 was a freakin' nightmare!
But yeah, I wish they'd play Merriweather too! Now that's a great venue. Two night's there would be awesome!

This is going to be such a happening tailpipe of a party. I can just imagine the perfect poster for this show now... cars backed up for miles waiting to get in to the Jiffy Lube.

With "Pearl Jam" spelled out in gray exhaust fumes.
Its a tradeoff. Verizon Center in DC is right above a metro station so its easy to get to. Even if you drove into the city its easy. This venue is out in fuck-all nowhere past industrial parks and condos, but at least there are huge jumbo-trons and OK sound. You don't have to worry about the cavernous echo from the arena out in Bristow.

Anybody have any idea on what were the best seats being sold via Ticketmaster after the TC presale? I have a pretty crappy TC number and I'm curious how close I can expect to get to the stage. Thanks in Advance!

I saw stuff in the pavilion for sale last week, though not great seats.
