Evans already has served two comic book tours of duty with the 'Fantastic Four' movies
Marvel has finally found someone to fill Captain America's big boots.
Actor Chris Evans, best known to comic book fanboys as the Human Torch in the "Fantastic Four" movies, has been cast to play the red, white and blue super hero, Variety reported.
Evans beat out a number of high profile actors like John Krasinski, Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillippe for the part of Steve Rogers, the 98-pound weakling turned super soldier fcreated by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby in 1941.
The 28-year-old Evans got the famous A for effort, signing on for at least three Captain America films and 2012's "The Avengers," according to the Hollywood Reporter.
That film will unite Evans' Captain America with a team of super heroes that includes Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man, Ed Norton's the Incredible Hulk" and Chris Hemsworth's Thor in a 2012 blockbuster straight out of the panels of comic fans' fantasies.
Paramount's "Captain America," directed by "Wolfman's" Joe Johnson, is scheduled for a July 22, 2011 release.
Hugo Weaving has also been cast to play the hero's arch-nemesis, the Nazi criminal mastermind known as the Red Skull, Variety reported.
Evans isn't the only actor to accept double duty in two super hero franchises. Ryan Reynolds was recently fitted with a ring as DC Comics' Green Lantern - after also signing on to play the Marvel mutant Deadpool in a spinoff of Fox's "Wolverine" franchise.

I don't think this is an adaptation of Ultimate, though.
im pretty sure its a mix, but the character will be based on ultimate, with the story line being red skull because he is the most well known of cap enemies
iron man is based on ultimates hulk is based off the ultimates nick fury was actually redesigned to look like samuel L in the comics, hence why he is nick fury in the movie(s)
everything i have read and seen is making me believe the characters are based on the ultimates with some regular continuity thrown in for old time fans

Man, whatever! I loved him in Sunshine. He looks like a Captain America. I think this should work out well. If it doesn't, I won't be too upset, I'm far more concerned about how Thor turns out.

I am actually willing to accept a wait and see attitude on Evans, he was the only good thing about the fantastic four movies.
Also, people were like "WTF??!?!? ZOMZZZZGGGG!!! WTF!???!!! Thats not goingggzzz to worrkkkksszzz!!" when Heath Ledger was cast as Joker and we all know how that turned out.

Besides, the casting is not the reason this movie will suck. Daredevil and Catwoman didn't suck because of the stars, it was because the script/directing/everything else was horrible.

Good point. I would have never expected something this good from Ledger

I dont know, can you make a good movie with Ben Affleck as a superhero regardless of script/direction?
