This will continue to be updated, daily I'm sure, but already there are 5 incidents of broken windows at Democratic Party offices, a yahoo in Alabama with a blog who is claiming responsibility for inciting the window breakings, threats to Rep. Louise Slaughter's children, Representatives greeted with racial and homophobic epithets and spitting on Capitol Hill, and this morning, Rep. Tom Periello's brother's house had the propane line slashed after a teabagger leader mistakenly posted the brother's address instead of teh Congressman's. The FBI is investigating.
All of these are linked with news stories in the map.
Here's a quick rundown of other threats received by members of Congress:
Threats Against Dems Escalating, Members Receiving Protective Detail by mcjoan Wed Mar 24, 2010 at 03:01:13 PM MDT
Aravosis reports on the increasing threat to Dem members of Congress.
Quote:
Now we find out that 10 members of Congress have asked for increased security following threats....
Here are Chuck Todd's tweets on the latest:
Quote:
RT @chucktodd: House Maj. Leader Hoyer says he's worried about the security of fellow House Dems; Calls on House GOP leaders to join in decrying threats
RT @chucktodd: Hoyer says any member of Congress who is concerned about threats is receiving access to security; So far, over 10 members.
CBS News has obtained audio of threats made against Rep. Bart Stupak.
Quote:
The calls placed to Stupak's office reveal the extreme anger members of Congress are facing.
"Congressman Stupak, you baby-killing mother f***er... I hope you bleed out your a**, got cancer and die, you mother f***er," one man says in a message to Stupak.
"There are millions of people across the country who wish you ill," a woman says in a voicemail, "and all of those thoughts that are projected on you will materialize into something that's not very good for you."
CBS News also obtained copies of faxes sent to Stupak, which include racial epithets used in reference to President Obama and show pictures of nooses with Stupak's name.
Another of the threatened members, pro-life Rep. Steve Driehaus, spoke with Brian Beutler today:
Quote:
Last week, the anti-reform advocacy group the Committee to Rethink Reform published an ad in The Cincinnati Enquirer featuring a photo of Dreihaus with his children. (Both the Committee and the Enquirer have retracted and apologized for the ad.) Now, conservatives are planning a Sunday protest outside of his house, after a conservative blog put his address--complete with directions--on the Internet.
Speaking to me and another reporter outside the House chamber this afternoon, Driehaus said Republican leaders are to blame for the vitriol--and implied that they will bear some responsibility if reform opponents' anger bubbles over into violence.
"I think if you look at some of the language that has been used by leaders on the Republican side, one shouldn't be surprised," Driehaus said. "Unfortunately many of us are now receiving threats, death threats.... These comments that have been made by Republican leaders can serve as--I don't know if I want to say an excuse or perhaps permission for people who may be unbalanced, who may be calling with these threats."
"My number one priority right now is ensuring the safety of my brother's family, and I am grateful to law enforcement for their excellent work," Perriello said in a statement today. "While it is too early to say anything definitive regarding political motivations behind this act, it's never too early for political leaders to condemn threats of violence, particularly as threats to other Members of Congress and their children escalate."
Absolutely Republican leaders need to condemn this, loudly and frequently. Or are they going to let Sarah Palin be the only voice of leadership on the issue?

You don't even need to go to Canada. The left in this country has a long and storied history of damaging property to make a point, whether it be globalization, environmental causes, or whatever. It doesn't matter who does it or why--it's cowardly and uncalled for and it often accomplishes the exact opposite of what the offender intended.

I wonder if PD thougt it was courageous of Bush every time he signed a trade agreement, given the violence of WTO protestors?

Fuck you and your moral equivalence. And fuck Canada. In America, it's the right that gets violent. Don't dismiss it with that sorry "both sides do it" bullshit.
And Liberal leaders don't fan the flames the way the leaders on the right have CONSTANTLY for the last two years. Any destruction of property by leftists are TRUE fringe isolated incidents. These latest incidents ARE NOT.

You'd want to ask him, but I'm going to go with "no".
I hope that nothing major happens with these assholes running around threatening people and destroying shit. And if the sensible conservatives (one could argue that there aren't that many of them left) are paying attention, they'll use this to their advantage and distance themselves from this sort of behavior. It's been pretty easy for the left to compartmentalize the entire right into a category that is defined by halfwits and dipshits.

I don't know if you are talking to me or not, but I'm not dismissing anything.
We both know the left is full of batshit stupids that pull the same shit, so I'm not sure what you are hoping to accomplish by constantly bringing up only right wing examples.
Did anyone actually read the link tyler posted (and that includes tyler)? What violence did "the Left" commit? They went to the building she was supposed to speak in and protested. After she apparently singled out a Muslim in the audience at one of her other rallies and told her to go ride a camel. This is somehow equivalent to cutting a gas line at someone's house. Yup.

The Coulter link showed that the speech had to be cancelled for fear of public safety due to protesters from the left. WTO/G8 protests show just how violent the left gets. It should be bi-partisan to voice disgust with the violence period. Picking sides should be beneath everyone.

No, the speech was not canceled for fear of public safety. The speech was canceled by Coulter's bodyguard. Of course this is assuming she didn't cancel it herself to drum up publicity. Does the article say anything about any violence either committed or threatened by the students? Nope.
As far as the WTO, you're right, there should be a bi-partisan voicing of disgust for that type of thing. Which is why there HAS been a bipartisan voicing of disgust for that type of thing. The worst protests were in Seattle in '99. From which party did the President appearing at that particular event belong?

Right, but unfortunately, it's not beneath the Republicans you are so quick to defend. Republicans cheered protesters as they were removed from the chamber last weekend. They completely encouraged this kind of mentality. The House minority leader, in an interview, saying a Democratic representative who voted for HCR was a "dead man" in his district. It's shameful.

Violence against or threatened against people is detestable, obviously. I don't put (non-personally targeted) property damage on the same level, though.

Liberals do it too.
However, the right wing NRA/Religious freaks are more dangerous/do it more often, I agree. I just want nothing to do with either wing.
