Except when they go on tour themselves later this year, their ticket prices go from 20 - 50 bucks at ticketmaster.

I love how sticking up to ticketmaster was a mini fad.

good for them. I wonder if Pearl Jam tried to arrange a wider boycott in 95/96 and failed, or if it never occurred to them to try

Need a quick explanation. How does charging $10 a ticket bypass Ticketmaster charges? It seems like TM would get the $$ either way especially if they were in the TM-contacted venues (PJ's problem in the 90s)

I remember an article during PJ's "mini-fad," Green Day was not totally on PJ's side. They thought if PJ wanted cheap tickets and small venues, they had the power to do so. I recall one of the GD guys saying "Just charge less." This was at a time when PJ was charging $30 a ticket-ish (Imagine that.) and I think GD was in the $15-20. This is just one example, but perhaps some artists thought it was too much trouble for nothing.

Was $22 in 1996. Oh, how the times have changed.

You're missing the point. PJ's perspective was that if they keep ticket prices low, everyone else involved (ticketmaster, the promoters etc) should also take a lesser cut. TM weren't prepared to lower their service fees with what the band saw as in line with their lower than average ticket prices.

It's also worth mentioning that a large part of the fight with TM wasn't just about prices-it was about TM refusing to print the face value ticket price on the ticket. PJ felt that TM should have to print the face value ticket price on the ticket and then print the extra fees separately. The purpose of this was to make ticket prices overall more transparent, so the purchaser could see at a glance how much the band were charging and how much TM were adding onto the tickets.

Didn't Green Day do a 5 dollar tour or something at some point?
