Anybody else blown away by this series? I think it's right on par with Planet Earth. The footage in HD is unreal. If you haven't seen it yet, it's on Discovery at 8pm on Sundays.

It's pretty awesome on a regular, crappy tv too. Fucking Comcast doesn't get Discovery HD for whatever reason.

Must be a regional thing- I get Discovery HD with Comcast. It is quite amazing. This last episode, with the color changing cuttlefish... holy shit that looked beyond stunning.

I tried to give Oprah as narrator a chance. I really did. But I feel like she's talking to me like a child. Fuck that shit. I can't wait to watch this with Attenborough narrating.

Yeah, Oprah is really, really shitty. She comes close to ruining it.

Great visual, horrible narration. I hate how Oprah says "ecosystems".

hahahaha...yeah it bugs me every time too.

Overall, Oprah doesn't really add or take away from my enjoyment of the series though. The footage blows me away.

I thought Sigourney Weaver did a good job on Planet Earth. I'll still take Attenborough over her, obviously, but she was ok.

Oprah, on the other hand, is just awful. It's like she's talking to a senile aunt.

Narration aside, I watched an episode tonight with insects that was AMAZING. This is, in my opinion, the best thing about HD. Nature shows really benefit from it. The scene with the Dawson's bees in Australia was incredible. The scenes of the bees flying and hovering in front of the camera looked so fucking "real" they almost looked fake!

From what you guys are saying, i may have to on-demand a few of these when I get home, if I can.

On mute, apparently. LOL. Oprah is the reason I haven't bothered to watch. I used to like her, but I had a feeling her big-headedness would make for a terrible narrator in this genre.

Somewhere in the US, there's an office with a group of TV Executives:

Exec 1: The BBC have done an amazing job filming 'Life'
Exec 2: Agreed. The HD camera work is great, but I'm not sure I like the narrator.
Exec 1: Is the same chump who narrated 'Planet Earth'?
Exec 2: Yeah Sir David Attenborough. I've not heard of him. He's not American, I think he's either Australian or British. I can never tell with these crazy foreign accents.
Exec 3: Let's get Sigourney Weaver back in to over dub the narration like we did last time.
Exec 1: We definitely need to get someone in as our focus groups say the typical US viewer feels threatened by foreign accents. Problem is Sigourney Weaver is unavailable.
Exec 2: Damn! I thought she was great in Ghostbusters! *Adopts a silly voice* Are you the Key Master?
Exec 3: OK, so let's brain storm! So we need someone who Americans feel comfortable with, someone who's a mother earth figure and who's an institution in her own right.
Exec 1: How about Oprah?
Exec 2: Yeah!!
Exec 3: Awesome!!
*Listening BBC Exec who until now has stayed silent*
BBC Exec: So let me get this straight. You want to replace Sir David Attenborough, a world renowned naturalist who's been making wildlife films for 60years and who wrote the bloody programme, with Oprah who, and let's be fair to her, is a bit shit, has no experience with films of this type, knows nothing about nature and had nothing to with the making of the programme? Oh well, so long as your paying...

You daft Yankee bastards...

Get over it Spaggy Boy.
Do you only come to post ridiculous anti american bullshit?
The fact is, an elderly british accent is not going to appeal to a lot of the minority segments of the american population. God Forbid they attempt to bring in someone who may be identifiable to people that otherwise find science and nature boring.

It was pretty classic when that Darwin Beetle threw his woman off the top of the tree when he was done with her.
