Rather than sharing writing (because that's a bad idea if you're trying to get published--any online posting disqualifies your work from ever being published in a journal), I envision this thread to be a place where people who are writing can talk about the process, both from a creative and a publication aspect.
So for me, I'm in poetry and I've been submitting places and getting mostly rejection slips (although Rattle sent me a nice, detailed rejection email). I've been on a crazy voice kick this week, written seven poems since last Tuesday, and my stuff is getting really abstract now--sparse images, mostly wordplay and, as I said, voice.

Oh, you think I'm being douchey? Well I shall have to re-examine everything then. Thanks brah.
i'm writing short fiction in the very little free time i have after working a lot and living in a studio apartment with my gf sharing 1 computer. mostly just on free time on the weekends now. i still haven't submitted anything yet, mostly due to constantly rewriting pieces, self-doubt, and laziness/lack of time causing me to not finish. my gf is going to be traveling most of next week so i'm hoping i can finalize this story that i really like.

Torn between these two schools of thought myself...The first being 'rewrite and rewrite and rewrite and keep rewriting until it's polished and presentable' and 'the first thing you write is the most honest thing, go with that'. Good thread. Hope it remains unpolluted of schtick and enlightening.

Today I submitted to Contrary, Euphony, and The Minnetonka Review, so that's three new rejection letters to wait for.
how many places do you submit each piece to?
i'd love to see some of this stuff.
It depends, especially on how many you're allowed to submit. Most are 3-5. So the last time I sent out I sent a set of four to each magazine and all three magazines rejected me. This time, two of the places allowed up to six, so I took the best three from last time and added three new ones. By the time I get around to submitting again, I might have five that I think are better, so this might be the last time I send these out, or I might just get bored and send them out again later if I still like them. I never send my very best work--it's a mental thing: that way when I get rejected, I can still say, "Well, I wrote this and this is better."
Is your email on facebook? I can send you what I'm writing and the links to the journals I submitted to.

I've really fallen off writing since graduating, and even more so since my writing group sparked and faded. Poetry or the non-long form was my mode of choice, though I started a much longer (in theory) piece of fiction over the summer.
Many moments strike me with ideas, especially long drives; but I never have the chance to (or forethought to plan for) writing things down. I also have the horrendous habit of reading, editing and rewriting everything I've written before writing anything new, any fresh ideas are always lost by the time I get through it all; it's like ED for us bastardized wordsmiths.
I bought a netbook as my old lappy was dying an agonizingly irritating death, hopefully it'll be open to more use... and get it. I also post no-where-near-semi-regularly as I'm not looking to get published but the back and forth of a writing workshop was always worth the price and effort of admission.
