Well whatever he did, I didn't know it at the time. Then again I'm just a slack-jawed yokel from Texas.
I didn't know it at the time either, nor did I suggest I did. It was later that I found out all my favorite episodes were produced by that guy, including this one (probably my all-time favorite):
It explains why the episodes were so uneven, quality-wise. There's a lot of really terrible Tom & Jerry episodes, but these are really fun and clever.
Also, how awesome is it that every little cue in these is orchestrated? Every tiny little thing.

I'm sure there's a technical term for it, but what I refer to as a "cue" is like whenever something physical happens on screen that is then underscored by the music. A good example is Tom's physical movements between 1:05 and 1:16 in the first video. Listen to the orchestra punctuating his movements. That is a full orchestra, mind you. Nobody does that these days.

lol @ having an opinion about directors while watching cartoons as a kid. You're something else, Jorge.
The director is the absolute KEY to how good a cartoon is.
When I was in college, I visited a friend at Northwestern, and every year they had "Warnerfest", where they showed 3 hours of old Warner Bros cartoons on the big screen in the auditorium in the engineering building. At the beginning of every cartoon when the director's name came up the entire audience woudl shout out the director's first name. "FRIZ!" "TEX!" "CHUCK!" "BOB!" And my favorite, "I!" (for "I. Freling" as Friz Freling's name sometimes appeared in credits).
This friend of mine was a Warner cartoon fanatic from an early age. By the time we were in high school, he had collected over 80% of teh Warner cartoons made prior to the 1960's, and this was all from taping them off of Saturday morning and after-school shows, before such things were sold commercially. He now writes for cartoons and video games.
