I haven't been this excited for a movie I knew nothing about since "Grindhouse" 3 years ago.

Well I know that with novel adaptations, the usual line with 95% of the properties that the movie is never as good as the book, does the same hold true for comic ones? I've never been a comic reader, though I know some stuff here and there about some titles as my older brother's always been into comics, but typically I'm just going off the movies themselves.

I am however rather looking forward to this from the trailers.

Ebert comes way off base here in his review. some spoilers in it.

It's not perfect, but totally worth it. Go out and see it guys, you won't be disappointed.

Caught this Friday afternoon. I had no expectations or knowledge of it other than a catching a few TV spots. God damn, I haven't laughed out loud so much in a theater in a long time. So funny, and the action scenes were well cut and a ton of fun. Even Nicholas Cage, who I don't usually care for as an actor, was pitch perfect here. All of his interactions with Hit Girl were great. Nice use of songs in the film, too.

Welp.

I went to see this earlier today, having no expectations and knowing nothing about it. I found it really corny. It definitely had some humor, and the action scenes were well done, but otherwise, meh.

Although, seeing the preview for Iron Man 2 did give me something to look forward to.

It was nice to finally see the long trailer for Iron Man 2 on the big screen. It looked pretty good, but once Kick-Ass was over, all I could think was that Iron Man 2 has its work cut out to be as enjoyable as Kick-Ass. And really, how are movies like Iron Man not even cornier, by design, than something like Kick-Ass?

I'm sure my experience was bolstered by the good crowd I lucked into viewing it with. Maybe 20-25 people (3pm show), mostly guys in their early-to-mid twenties, and everyone cracking up at the same shit.

It has nowhere to go but up. There isn't much to the comic outside of JRJR's excellent art and the ultraviolence, and it doesn't execute on the potential of the story being told. I can only think the movie can be better than the comic, unless they TOTALLY fuck it up.

This is pretty much what I was saying when I made my comment

how do you feel about JRJR as a whole? i think he was the perfect artist for wolverine, enemy of the state, but when he does, for lack of a better term, normal stories, character growth stories, im not too keen on it

I've been a huge fan of JRJR since his work on Daredevil back in the late 80s. I love his unique sketchy style, and I think he always finds a way to infuse real emotion into the characters he draws, and his panel to panel compositions are excellent. I loved his recent work on The Eternals as well.

I think in the case of Kick-Ass, he didn't have a whole lot to work with due to the overrated Mark Millar, but I really dug the art of the book. He knows how to do "loner" stories well, for example.
