Let's just make a list:
Euthanasia for animals: legal, and in fact is common practice
Euthanasia for humans: illegal
Pulling the plug on a brain-dead patient w/a living will: legal
Pulling the plug on a brain-dead patient w/o a living will: can of worms
Assisted suicide: illegal except in Oregon
Attempted suicide: illegal, I think--how is this prosecuted, if at all?
Successful suicide: unenforceable
Does anyone else see a very inconsistent message on this issue in general? Does anyone have an rational explanation for this?

Yes, I see a very inconsistent message. Perhaps when the Baby Boomers are all put into nursing homes by their children, they will look to their legistlators to effect change on their behalf so they can have the right to die with dignity and without suffering.

I think legally, people should be allowed to make informed choices of their own life and death. I've argued pretty heavily in the "Is suicide OK?" thread for stopping healthy people from offing themselves in any way possible, but I don't think there should be legal sanctions.
With abortion, yeah, it'd be nice to let the infant choose, but the mother has a life to consider as well. So, until that infant can live on its own, I gotta leave that choice with her. Abortion should fall into the same category as suicide. It's a suck-ass choice for 99% of people, but you can't punish people for making it.

id say you have a right to kill yourself depending on the situation, as long as it doesnt physically interact with someone, that is, someone sees your death
take a long walk into the ocean at 3am in the morning when no one or hardly anyone would notice. go out to the forest and never come back.
but hang yourself in your room where family members may stumble upon ya, or jump in front of a bus and scare the bajesus outta the bus driver? no

Dig a hole, take a bunch of sleeping pills, cover yourself in dirt before the pills kick in. (eat a couple slices of bread first!)

I was giving advice on how someone should off themself, not telling you to do that.

The issue that arises with the long swim or walk in the woods is that, it takes a while for benefits to kick in for ones family, families question if the person is truly lost. Anyway, the whole thing destroys a family altogether. Suicide reaches far past the individual and effects the whole family. There are on occasion incidents where I see how people see it as the only options (incurable disease), but I could never do it.
Moral: If you take the long swim, tie something bouyant to your leg so as to allow people to find you.

i teach excel and he was having problems with a personal training sheet he was setting up for clients. i cant solve it, and have passed it onto a MOUS (Microsoft Office User Specialist)instructor

oh, i still believe filly fans are by far the worse of all fans out there, next to maybe only boston fans, but i dont let my contempt for who a person roots for get in the way of reason and being able to help folks out if i can, if i didnt talk to people who annoyed me or tried to help out when i could, id be a monk
