I watched this again today for the first time in a couple years, pretty good. Probably not as quality as Mystic River, the other big Lehane flick, but not bad.
But what got me wondering is, the decision that Casey Affleck's character faces in the end -- would you have made his choice?
Okay, even though this has been out for a few years now I guess to be safe I'll put this in spoiler code for those who haven't gotten around to seeing it.
So just as a reminder, you have the fact that Morgan Freeman's lieutenant character, Ed Harris' cop character, and Titus Welliver's (aka the original MIB on "Lost"!) uncle to the little girl character all in on this mini conspiracy to remove this 4 year old girl Amanda from the home of her mother since she's the epitome of white trash, a selfish loser junkie who completely forgets about her daughter as much as she does nice things for her, they take the girl under the guise of a drug-related kidnapping and Freeman & his wife take her in in the hopes of getting her out of that toxic environment to give her a better, more promising life.
Everyone -- including Affleck's partner and girlfriend, Michelle Monoghan -- seems to be on the side of just walking away and let this plan have worked, but Affleck can't let it go, that even though the kid's in a horrible environment in which to be raised, it doesn't change the fact that the junkie is her mother and should have her daughter, so he ultimately calls the cops on Freeman and Amanda gets put back with the mother.
What do you think you would've done? With all the rest of the plan having already been carried out, the girl was already set up in the new home, would you have let them keep her? Or would you have ratted them out and put mother & daughter back together?)
I think it's better than Mystic River, which was good, but too overwrought and melodramatic. Gone Baby Gone was subtle and underplayed, and the drama wasn't so heavy handed.

How so?
ultra hammy acting and some of the stupidest, poorly written dialogue i've ever seen. i can't think of a more melodramatic, actor ego aggrandizing shitfest. gone baby gone is cut from the same cloth but that has a much better script.
