The Mexico crowds are pretty insane, in a good, high energy kind of way.

Is it 2005.11.25 where the crowd are singing the guitar riffs? That one.

did anywhere in South America get "Undone?"

No, Boston did. We won't worship anything they play, and I think the band appreciates an audience that has higher standards than, say, Dissident.

Given the fact that Boston gets at least one show a year and S. America gets one tour a decade, I'm pretty sure the band appreciates the fans enthusiasm for them even coming down there. LOL @certain songs meaning higher standards at shows. Boston also gets Evenflow.

Thanks for this completely worthless contribution to a thread that has nothing to do with setlists.

there's more to being an audience than yelling at the top of your lungs for two hours.

it reflects the bands opinion of the audience, in some ways.

I wish I could find that article I read before the 2009 tour that had an interview with Ed where he basically said they don't play a lot of the "rarities" for a reason. That reason was they hate playing them. Whether it's Boston, Europe, S. America, etc. I would think the band would be at their best when they are playing shit they like to play.

Actually, that's probably about it.

From the band's perspective, I'm sure they'd prefer to play for thousands of appreciative fans who lap up their well-known material because it's actually really fucking good rather than a bunch of dweebs nonchalantly nodding their heads along to the show, going for a piss during Even Flow and metering out their applause based on how rare the song being performed is.

Uh-huh, it's all about the subtleties. Like standing arms-folded during "Small Town" and knowing exactly the right spot to leave for a piss break during "Evenflow".

Just accept that no US crowd could match the unbridled enthusiasm in that video posted. It's because of a number of reasons-- the cultural differences, the fact that Pearl Jam never play here, etc.-- that is irrelevant to the question asked in this thread. The question was "best audience". The South American crowds win this pretty easily.

I know what the question is, I asked it.

Those fans would go crazy like that if they played Bugs. A good audience loses their shit after a good performance, not just because the band took the stage. Yeah, they have unbridled enthusiasm, to a point where they're an awful barometer of the show. There's no meaningful interaction because they'll go nuts for anything.

I think the bands' expressions in that video say it all. You can't tell me that they are not appreciative of that crowd. Matt's jaw drops to the floor. With a crowd like that, Undone would have killed that fucking show.

Oh, okay, could've fooled me, because I thought for a second there we were slipping into the usual "BOSTON GETS RARITIES ALL THE TIME, MAN! THEY FUCKING LOVE US!" shpiel.

Oh, okay.

Here's the band actually voicing their opinion of the audience.

There's very few things that are great about being a Pearl Jam fan in South America. This is a tiny little ember of pride in our otherwise destitute list.
