Breaking news on CNN.com.

Man, first Schiavo, then Mitch Hedberg, now this? I can't remember a day like this one.

Good, I was afraid I'd have to go a day w/o rooting for someone to die.

Oh yeah, don't forget Cochran. What a deadly week!

 I thought that meant he was dead, but he's not. How do last rites work?

It's a sacrament given to gravely ill people of Catholic faith. Typically, a priest comes in, says prayers, administers the person communion (if the circumstances allow), and makes the sign of the cross with oil and sprinkles holy water on them.

Edit: Annointing of the Sick: In it a sick or dying person is anointed on eyes, ears, nostrils, lips, hands, feet, and sometimes, in the case of men, the loins, by a priest while he recites absolutions for sins committed. The Roman Catholic Church teaches that through the sacrament the sick and dying receive remission of sins, health of soul, and, if God wills, health of body. The sacrament may be shortened, and it may be given conditionally, as when there is doubt as to whether the recipient is living or as to whether he is baptized. Anointing of the sick is given only to persons seriously ill and in danger of death from internal causes; hence, it is not given before operations or in battle before attack. Anointing of the sick, the last confession, and the viaticum are the last rites of the church. The chief biblical text for anointing of the sick is James 5.14,15. In the Eastern churches it is normally given by three priests, and it may be given to the healthy to prevent sickness; it is not so widely used in the Eastern churches as in the West.

Yeah, usually it means death is imminent.

Along the lines of the shooting, I heard this morning that the KGB actually ordered the assassination. It contracted with Bulgarian and E. German authorities to take care of it who, in turn, hired some Turkish nationals. What a nice country that was.

The last week of the Pope's life, right? I hope you don't mean the last week period.

They always say that people die in threes, i guess the pope is going to be the last one. Not that Mitch Hedberg was really that famous.
