I was listening to this on my mp3 player on the way home from work and it hit me: this is hands down the best two songs in a row of the 2003 tour and one of the best two-song stretches the band has ever done.
"Deep" is performed for the first time since 1995 and the band absolutely NAILS it. Ed is intense and dialed in and the song sounds better with Matt than it did with any of the drummers who had performed the song earlier. As the end of the song builds to a fever pitch they just go for it...Matt is wailing on the drums, Mike is soloing his ass off and Ed is singing over the top of it. Orgasmic.
Just when you thought they couldn't get any better, in comes "Blood" for the first time in the US (outside the Seattle shows in December) since 1996. Clearly pissed off about the Denver "Bu$hleaguer" fiasco, Ed just RAGES. This might be his finest vocal performance of the entire tour. He's so intense he flubs the bridge a bit before finding his way, and then he proceeds to COMPLETELY SHRED HIS VOCAL CORDS. He sounds 1994, even 1992 good here. Showing his anger over the Denver media reports, he ad libs after the last chorus "Compromise the truth...compromise me too" while the band is totally locked in.
That is all. If you haven't listened to these two songs (this whole show is awesome, actually) go and do it now. DO IT.

I was in attendance for this show, and I can remember going nuts when they played Deep. Just bonkers. I was 8th row dead center, and I remember screaming out (like a jackass), "LEASH!!," but was thoroughly satisfied once Deep started playing. Blood was pretty intense.
They absolutely nailed Get Right too, and I loved how Ed let the crowd end Small Town. The Driftin' ->Blood run is pretty damn good.
Definitely one of the sleeper shows of the RA Tour, and one of my favorite PJ shows I've been to. It would be great if they came back some day.
