"That's me pretending to be Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a feeble attempt at that. Stone (Gossard, Pearl Jam guitarist) wrote the riff and song; I think it's a D tuning. I just followed him in a regular pattern. I tried to steal everything I know from Stevie Ray Vaughan and put it into that song. A blatant rip-off. A tribute rip-off, if you will!"
I think the old demo above is McCready's best example of playing like Stevie, and it stands out much more than any of the other actual recorded versions. Love the clean strat tone, love the licks during the verses, and during the 'solo' I can hear LOTS of Stevie licks in there. ahhh how I used to love how he played this song back in those early days
Can anyone else hear the various licks taken from songs like Couldn't Stand the Weather, Lenny etc?
I'd love to see Pearl Jam bust out a cover of Couldn't Stand the Weather one day!

I love SRV. Yep, you can really hear Mike ripping off his licks there for sure.
For all that I'm glad he doesn't play it that way now though. - I love the way Even Flow has evolved over time. Great song.
