i really loved it, but i'm a big fan of sci-fi and dystopia, so the setting (both in the real world and in cyberspace) drew me in right away. the story unfolds really well i thought (as in, things are revealed at a balanced pace, allowing the lack of full information to drive the story for periods, followed by the reveal, before the story might otherwise start to drag, which then drives the story for a period). i enjoyed the writing style as well (on wikipedia it compares Gibson's narrative voice to Chandler's in The Big Sleep). i'm not as well read in fiction as most/all of you in the reading thread, but this book drew me in and ranks up with my favorites (though i don't think it cracks top 3 alongside The Stranger, 1984, and Gatsby).

i haven't read the stranger, but 1984/gatsby are great picks.
i did read the plague, didn't care much for it though.
