The January 2010 list of the 1,000 Greatest Films of all-time has primarily been compiled by using 2,041 individual critics' and filmmakers' personal lists/ballots of their favourite/best films.
Lists of favorite movies are taken from filmmakers and critics and combined to form this ranking of 1000 top films.
Quote:
Narrowed down from a starting list of over 8,800 films, utilizing some rather tricky formulas, we believe that this is quite possibly the most definitive guide to the most-acclaimed movies of all-time. At the very least, it is a rather spiffy place for all budding/established film buffs to commence/enhance their cinematic experiences.

I know this is probably blasphemy but... Hitchcock is easily my favorite director of all time, but Vertigo's kinda boring to me. It's nowhere within reach of my top films of his (#1 is prob Rear Window).

It's not a choice, though. It's taking all the "best-of" lists this site could get their hands on, and combining them into one master list. It's the choice of a lot of people. Thus, the top 100 is going to be somewhat predictable. That's why its 1000 movies long. It establishes something of a formal 'canon' of the greatest films.

it´s not blasphemy to prefer Rear Window over Vertigo...what´s blasphemy is calling Vertigo boring!!!
That said, I too prefer Rear Window

i usually avoid these types of things. i end up reading the whole damn list, disagreeing with a lot of it along the way, then i feel compelled to read the comments, at which point i get all pissed because of how stupid people are and imagine how great it would be to destroy them because of their general status of being total fucks.
