what do you think of green day's american idiot and/or their style of music in the past and/or present?

my opinion is kind of non-existant... if i'm listening to the radio while driving to or from work i don't change the station when a song from american idiot comes on, sometimes i enjoy it in a fun sort of way... but i'm kind of confused by it. it seems semi-genuine, semi-meaningful, semi-selling out. what do you think?

i liked where they were at with the release of 'warning'. in my opinion it was a great album but they weren't slapped on every single music magazine cover like they have been in recent months. the songs weren't overplayed and everything was shweet. now, its a little overkill. i loved the album when it was first released but now find myself skipping the singles. i dont even listen to the radio, it just seems to be everywhere.

so you think because of the fact that people seem to 'like it too much' (which is what i assume you mean by too much media attention), it isn't worth enjoying? i don't understand

it isnt that hard to grasp. they've always been good, but now they're being overhyped. being a casual fan its hard to see a band you casually enjoy being pimped as the best thing ever.

I recorded the VH1 appearence but haven't watched it yet. My husband and a friend of ours both think that the latest album is their best work, I feel that, while it is lyrically sound, it "sounds" just like the other stuff.

but does being 'pimped as the best thing ever' cause you to dislike them or their new album as a 'casual fan'?

I didn't care too much for thier older albums, and American Idiot was no better IMO. I think it's way overhyped, it's not that great.

I, too, initially enjoyed it, but the album is getting an insane amount of hype.

It's good, but I'd personally much rather hear Billie Joe singing about smoking pot and masturbating. Maybe that's just me, though.

I want to agree with you, but i don't think it's necessarily 'overhyped'. I haven't heard all of it, but the songs that get all of the attention/radioplay are ones that deserve it compared to other songs that get radioplay these days. They may seem a bit over 'pop', but they do 'say' something. And they have enough energy to blow most bands to shit. And they do 'sound' good, right?

I'm not sure what relevance hype has at all. It's a decent record, with some really great moments. My middle schoolers love it. :P

I think Billie Joe has enough energy and style to his credit to sing and write about anything that may cross his mind or inspire him. I admire the guy.

American Idiot made me start to enjoy greenday's music. Even though the singles are insanely over played

I enjoy the new album. Sure, some of the songs may be overplayed, but in a way I think it's good. I don't listen to much radio outside of the commercial free college station here. If Green Day is getting air time on corporate radio stations, thank god. Kids deserve exposure to some quality music.

I caught some of their VH1 Storytellers. I don't like the new format.

It's not a bad album if you can get over the hype. I certainly like it better than their previous efforts. But it's not the best thing since sliced bread either.

Well, he's not that young anymore. You won't see Eddie writing songs like Leash no more neither.

Anyway, I liked Green Day pre-American Idiot. I love American Idiot.

I'm all about American Idiot. It gets a lot of time on the air, which I think is appropriate, it's a well-written album that happens to be radio friendly at the same time. I can't call it selling out by any means. However I do agree that I personally liked them best at the Warning juncture, just because I liked that style just a tiny bit more.

I normally don't like green day since they use like the same power chords in all of their songs (joke, they know 3 or 4 more), but i saw them perform this song on Story Tellers and it was a really nice song, i liked it a lot.

Not a big fan, but some songs are nice.
