The days when you would just toss your head up to the heavens, lose yourself int he music and play with emotion. Those were pretty awesome days.

Just saying.

Find the bleed, my old friend.

His solos at the Flight To Mars concert this year were 10x better than anything I've seen him do in the past few PJ tours. And with way more emotion and feeling too.

From 2FT:

07/09/95 – Summerfest: Marcus Amphitheater: Milwaukee, WI [120m]
attendance: 24,000
support act : The Frogs and Bad Religion
set: I Only Play for Money (EV w/ The Frogs), Act of Love, Go, Last Exit, Spin the Black Circle, Tremor Christ, Corduroy, Not for You, Why Go, Jeremy (original, teaser), Deep, Daughter/Improv (This is How I Feel)/(Release)/(ABitW-II), Jeremy (new), Rearviewmirror, Elderly Woman, Lukin, Animal, Dissident, Even Flow, Black, Alive, Blood
enc: Star Boy, Little Wing/Maggot Brain, Better Man, Porch
notes: If a show could have been any different (and better!) than the previous night, this was it. Ed surprises the audience by joining the Frogs’ set for ‘I Only Play for Money.’ Dressed in a Beatles-type wig, sunglasses and shiny silver jacket, he is not recognizable until he begins to sing. In return, Jimmy of the Frogs accompanies Ed in the acoustic encore ‘Star Boy.’ A surprising opening song, ‘Act of Love,’ is extremely hard and driven. Lots of long jams that really show off Mike’s ability. For the encore, Chad Smith (RHCP’s drummer) joins PJ and a fascinating version of the Hendrix classic, ‘Little Wing.’ They jam for about eight minutes, mutating into ‘Maggot Brain,’ a funkadelic song from the 70s penned by Eddie Hazel. Mike’s guitarwork leaves the crowd (and the rest of the band apparently) awestruck. It was later reported that Mike was hospitalized after the two Milwaukee shows due to dehydration and exhaustion.
:peace:

Yeah, that's a pretty awesome jam. Mike blows it up in that video.

Not sure what thread I was just talking about this in but, this video.......jaw dropped. I worked my ass off several years ago when I heard this performance to get it onto my harddrive. Where did that McCready go?

My only real complaint is that his tone is so great on that video, but since then both he and Stone have gone more "vintage" in their sounds. I miss the balls-out Marshalls myself.

I think Stone and Mike had pretty unremarkable guitar tones on the tours for the first couple of records, but I really love the sounds they were both getting circa 1998-2000.

It's been a bit of a mixed bag since then, however. Hearing loss?

Eddie Vedder has that fire in his voice too!!! I think Mike fuels the rest of the band because when he's on fire all they can do is just hope to keep up. Chad Smith sounds great with the band.

Man, that was good. I loved how it just grooved and was kinda slow; unlike now where it's like the band takes a bunch of speed before each show.

It's really weird to hear the band back in the 90's then hear them through the 2000's...live, it's almost like two different bands. Maybe it's Matt's fault?

The ironic part is, Mike was probably high as shit on cocaine when he played that all slow.

I thought Mike always said his weight fluctuation was due to the meds from Crohn's Disease and not drugs.

I'm pretty sure Mike did lots of blow.

What evidence do you have to back that theory up?
