Ho ho ho!

Quote:
Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland is set to release a Christmas album later this year. His producing partner/solo band guitarist Doug Grean posted this on Twitter:

Recording strings for weiland xmas record at lavish today. Lots of worky work.

I don't know what's gayer, the concept of a Scott Weiland Christmas album or his producer's use of "worky work".

To be honest, this is probably the first thing Weiland has done in ten years that I'm remotely interested in checking out.

I listened to the first couple songs on that stream. Its really weird to hear him croon like that, but I can totally see a younger generation of hipsters buying it.

Weiland has always been a great, versatile singer, and the "And So It Goes"/"Atlanta"-style smoothness has always been my favorite component of his vocal range. I'm far more interested in hearing him tackle this kind of material than I am in hearing STP rehash grunge for a third or fourth time.

I don't mind him singing rock n' roll songs, but his ballads over the years with STP, Velvet Revolver, and in his solo work have been really fun to listen to.

Maybe it'll be a $5 album for December on Amazon. If not, well ... friends by Christmas presents.
