The "Happy Meal" from McDonald's, and other fast-food packaged with toys, may get the axe in San Francisco if the such meals for kids contain too much sodium, sugar, or fat.
The potential "Happy Meal-killer" law proposed on Tuesday doesn't aim to altogether take away toys being given out with fast-food meals, but to provide guidelines about which food can be packaged with toys, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
“Our legislation will encourage restaurants that offer unhealthy meals marketed toward children and youth to offer healthier food options with incentive items or toys,” supervisor Eric Mar, a main sponsor of the bill, told the Chronicle. “It will help protect the public's health, reduce costs to our health care system and promote healthier eating habits.”
Santa Clara County made a similar proposal into law earlier this year, but it only applies to unincorporated areas with low population sizes.
Under the proposal, fast-food restaurants would not be able to give out a toy if a single food item contains more than 200 calories or 480 milligrams of sodium. The entire meal can't have more than 600 calories.
Fruits and vegetables would also need to be in a meal in order for restaurants to be authorized to offer toys with it.
The restaurant industry decried the proposal, saying that it would cause a public backlash against the city.
"The San Francisco Board of Supervisors seems to have an insatiable appetite for punishing the restaurant industry," Daniel Conway, director of public affairs for the California Restaurant Association, told the Chronicle. "However, the widespread ridicule that this proposal will receive should give them a case of heartburn."

Kids are relentless mother fuckers.
We went shopping at some outlet malls yesterday. My son remembered riding on a coin-operated Bullwinkle ride last time we were there; over a year ago. They must have replaced it b/c we didn't find it, but that damn kid asked about the "moose ride" every ten minutes for four hours. Jesus Christ! I wish I could have bought the damn ride and donated to the shopping center just to shut him up.
