you should listen to the rest. some great great songs on there. its all ridiculous and fun and there are some great lines/guitar and drum parts throughout. and some random piano/horn/bagpipe parts.

Really good album. And nice Bruce references.
and a billy bragg reference so I figured this would be your favourite album ever

Guys, why the hell aren't we talking about this band more? They're one of the best things out there right now. I just saw them for the third time in the last year tonight and they were fabulous, again.
They will conquer the world. You should all be on the bandwagon.

Then you obviously weren't paying attention. It actually sounds nothing like either band.
The guy screaming like Dave Grohl, the picked basslines and drumming very common on british rock.

I enjoy this record and "Airing of Grievances" very much. I admire their live show, but sometimes I found myself cringing at their earnestness. I respect it, because of their authenticity and fearlessness. But I'm not ready to fully espouse it.

I don't really know about their live shows, and the only record of theirs I own is The Monitor (I can't find the previous one here in Bs As) but I don't find them over-the-top earnest. Their songs have a playfulness to them, in the arrangements and lyrics and the playing, that's very far removed from what I would call "earnest".
I love this record, by the way. I think it's wonderful. Folk melodies over ferocious punk-ish music.
The Foo Fighters comparison is way off. I mean, wtf?

the platypus is right "Folk melodies over ferocious punk-ish music." about sums it up. an epic album, thats meant to be slightly tongue in cheek ridiculous. loads of fun though. some really rocking drum/guitar starts and stops.

I'm was talking about their performance. But I think their record is fairly earnest too.

I'm strictly talking about their performance. Not the record.
I was surprised you enjoy them so much in light of your comments on the Boss in another thread.
