On Pearl Jam: "...There's more that we can do. We could be more challenging and more interesting. We'll continue to try."

I liked that part.

I think picking Stone's brain about Pearl Jam would be pretty interesting, moreso than any other member of the band.

Maybe more challenging means more songs like The Fixer.

i dont think he was speaking musically....

its in response to how the press has championed them....

with all due respect pearl jam have been attempting new things a band (in their minds) in regards to promoting their band and handling their image.

So i dont think that quote was speaking about them musically. So get ready for some more fixin, rm :)

Yeah, my post wasn't a joke, I really think there's a good chance that's what they mean.

i thought the fixer was a pretty interesting song, musically. I don't play anything so I can't speak to the technical merits, but I'm still finding little surprises and unexpected moves in that song a year later.

Nice article. Interesting to see him comment on the Soundgarden reunion, and to see that he's all about the money-grab for this Brad record.

I'm left wondering how much that Target deal was worth for the band.

his money grab sounds like something he's doing for his friends. His comments on musicians surviving in the industry were interesting.

Yeah, I figured he might have saved up a few bucks from his gig with Pearl Jam.

Why do you say that? Do we have any details behind the deal?

i think they bought like 1 million copies, and backspacer hasn't sold that many, so unless there is something built in where PJ buys copies back I can imagine they didn't get everything they wanted out of the deal

I hope Stone brings that fish song into the demo sessions. It's got a lot of potential.

I really liked Stone's honesty about the Target deal. Even if I personally thought it wasn't the best thing ever, I think it's awesome that Stone's happy to speak about their motivations in a very down-to-earth way. Respect, Gossard.

I can't imagine Ed giving as straight-forward an answer as Stone, for instance.

"Oh, Target? Are we on Target now? I don't know, something like that, that's what I hear anyway. Target reminds me of like...y'know, The Who, mods. That's cool, so it's cool with me, yeah."

stone is so clear when he speaks....he seems to be really directing the way pearl jam is making bussiness this last time...and its clearly a hit in that way.
i really like the aproach they had this last record when it comes to the target deal and making videos and stuff...they even released that UK video from berlin that was so cool...

regarding to brad i hope they tour a lot, their material is awesome and better than other bands...and i sure hope pearl jam release something new next year.

The more I follow Pearl Jam, the more I see that Stone Gossard is and always was the backbone of Pearl Jam.
