Here we have something similar that the natives make called "fried bread." You can put honey butter on it, or honey, or butter, or jam, or powdered sugar, or a combo of all of that.
Messican restaurants serve them too - with honey and some powdered sugar.
Shrug. They're yummy, but clearly terrible for you.

What's in them? It looks like there should be something in them.
I've had them puffy and flat, if they're puffy you can poke a hole in them and put honey inside. Haven't had one in a while actually, I prefer flan and tres leches cake.

When I was a little kid, I went with the family to a Mexican restaurant. At the end of the meal, I really wanted dessert, but felt a little guilty because I was the only one who did. So I ordered the 'Sopapilla' and out comes this huge dish of whatever these are, seemingly designed to be devoured by three to four fat men with no self-control. I knew that a)it'd take me forever to make a dent in this dish, and that b)I'd never ever finish it. For some reason, this made me cry my eyes out. I've never looked at sopapillas the same again.
