this is the thread for health nuts like myself. the title is smoothies because i am currently addicted to them, but feel free to talk about other health foods that are currently kicking your ass.

what kinds of things do you like to put in your smoothies? personally, the right combination of bananas, berries, peanut butter, yogurt, milk and whey protein are my favorite. sometimes, i'll switch from bananas to mangoes, but i find that if i don't chop the mango small enough, it is hard to blend, and the texture of the shake is kind of chunky. :?

fyi, i made the closest to perfect blend today. i think i got the proportions of each ingredient just right.

Post-workout protein shake =

1 scoop of chocolate whey protein mix (I buy the GNC brand)
8-10 oz. of 1% milk
2 tbls of peanut butter (low fat if you can find it)
a couple ice cubes

Blend in a blender and enjoy. It tastes really fucking good and it has about 35 grams of protein. Drink it twice a day between meals.

Don't go too crazy for smoothies and regular fruit juice. Fruits like those contain natural sugars which most people are unaware of. Some nutritionists actually recommend you to view fruit juice as soda. Check the nutritional value if you don't believe me. You're better off drinking a Guinness.
EDIT: Spike, you beat me to it. :? :? :?

I'm currently drinking 33.8 fl. oz. of water, which might sound silly but it's a new thing for me. I haven't been good with my water intake so I'm trying to fix that.

Smoothies: I'm pretty simple. I like bananas and ginko.

It doesn't really matter. The aim is to try to find a peanut butter that has as low saturated fat as possible.

Every schoolday, I eat a thick ham and cheese sandwich on rye bread. I eat half before class, and the other half after my workout. Of course it's shortly followed by a small dinner as well...and yes the other half of the dinner is eaten 2 hours before bedtime.

Thank you, I'm a nerd.

Pretty much a good call, Sunny.

I still like a good old-fashioned glass of orange juice, but nutrient-wise I'm drinking soy milk more instead.

I have one question/comment, though. If you were to make a smoothie out of fresh fruits, wouldn't that be nearly the same as eating the fruit before you blended it?

I'm also quitting the drink for about a month and a half. Weird.

Burt: what do you blend your smoothies in? Blender or food processor?

Nalgene bottles are a godsend. Water kicks ass as well.

I'm addicted to 8th Continent Soy, light original. SO GOOD.

My allegiance is to Silk Vanilla, but I've never had 8th Continent--maybe I'll get a small bottle of it soon.

Perhaps soy milk comes from angels. ;)

The first milk I ever tried was Silk and I just enjoy the 8th Continent flavor more. They have the original, vanilla, chocolate and all of them come in regular and light.

I do believe you are right about it's origins! :o

I'm drinking Culligan Man water from a Fiji bottle. Mmmmm...

I swallow all the ingredients whole, and let my stomach do the blending work.

My sources say that yes, indeed, soy milk is angel semen.
