I'm by no means a Tigers' fan. Maybe a fairweather fan, I suppose. I always root for them when they're not playing a favorite team of mine, but today, just as I was about to change the channel to watch a different game (the Tigers were killing the Royals), Dimitri hammers his third home run of the game.

Three hom runs, five RBIs. Opening day. Amazing.

Dimitri Young is good. If he hadn't gone down last year with a broken ankle, the Tigers would have picked up at least 6 more wins.

I'm happy for Young. He's a good player, a team leader and loves playing for Detroit.

Is that the guy from the Cubs that hit 3 HR's on opening day a few years ago and then never did anything else in his career? I'm thinking it is.

Yes. He hit all three off Doc Gooden.

It may be even longer if Gagne is on the DL for a considerable period of time.

I was actually going to mention that, but I thought it was a mistake when I heard it on the air. ;)

I was at the Tuffy Rhodes game. It was actually exactly 11 years ago today. And 6 years before that George Bell hit three home runs on Opening Day for the Blue Jays. They are the only three occurences of a 3 HR game on Opening Day, and are all on the same date.
