1. Do there exist somewhere compilations for the 2004 VFC tour and the 2007 Euro tour? The St. Louis VFC show is the only one of this lot I bothered to seek out, and that was just because I was there. But somehow I feel like I ought to have some kind of representative sample for posterity.

2. How do people feel about iTunes m4a files? The impression I get is that they sound pretty good but can be irritating to convert for folks who don't use iTunes. More specifically, if I uploaded a couple shows in that format, would there be any takers? I have no idea how to upload something in FLAC, but ripping something into iTunes and then sendspacing it is really easy and pretty quick.

3. On the Ten Club site, when you go to order boots, there appears a space for a "coupon code" or something. What is that? Is that a Ten Club membership perk? I've bought 19 of those damn things between '08 and now and feel like there ought to be some sort of frequent buyer miles or something.

Ten Club doesn't issue coupon codes very often. Currently, you can use POSTER to save 30% on posters and HOODIE to save 20% on hoodies. Around Christmas they had one to save on a whole bunch of shit. I don't know of any that have ever been issued for boots.

Kevin, respectfully, m4A sucks cock.

Flac is gold, 320/256 mp3 is respectable, anything else is, in the words of my man Lowlight79, a crack whore.

Good enough--glad I asked before I wasted my time. :)

For FLAC in iTunes, this may help you. I downloaded Fluke and it worked for me.

I use ALAC (Apple Lossless) exclusively, I love it. It's the iTunes equivalent of FLAC.

Thanks for the info. I'll dig into those programs a little later. Obviously my ear for these things is not very refined; I hear zero difference between the m4a files and the CD's from which I rip the material initially, and most of CD's are original silver-disc boots (or in the case of the Kufala years, original source CD-R's).

Any info on the '04/'07 stuff? Is it even worth tracking down?

speaking of the VFC tour... Does anyone know if the dvd of the VFC compilation video ever surfaced. I remember waiting for it but then long forgot about it. I'm talking about the dvds that were sent out to people hosting viewing parties across the US. See link below.

I have all of these shows as FLAC files backed up on blank DVD's. I can't upload the rest of this month though, because I got an email from my ISP saying I'm nearly at the upload/download limit for this month (which is 170 gigabytes-fuck knows what I was downloading!)

I think the VFC shows were shit, performance-wise. I wasn't at any of them-that opinion is just from the recordings.

There are a good few SBD/TV things from the Euro 2007 I think, as well. I can check my DVD's for you. I can upload stuff next month if someone doesn't sort you first.

Many thanks. If you get a chance to upload one or two of the better-sounding Euro '07 shows, I'd be very grateful. Absolutely no hurry though.

The VFC STL show was probably the weakest of the 6 PJ shows I've attended--obviously it being a very brief tour didn't give them much chance to get oiled. If the rest of them aren't worth tracking down I'll be glad to have that one show as the representative sample. Gracias for the info.

I have a random question.

That sombre piano-based instrumental that precedes Corduroy right at the start of the 1995 Asia/Australia tour film, is it Pearl Jam? Was there ever any clarification? It's cool, regardless, but I always wondered if that was an actual instrumental the band had prepared or if it was just something by another artist to fill that space.

That movie is pretty much the coolest thing ever. I'm guessing a fair bunch of that footage will find its way into the Cameron Crowe documentary, or at least I hope so. Also, I wonder if they were as diligent in recording all of their tours? If so, there's a shitload of stuff they must be sitting on - video and audio.

That video is the single greatest thing I've ever downloaded, period. A complete pro-shot compilation of PJ on their best (imho) tour playing super intense versions of some of their best songs with cool tour footage interspersed? It just does not get better than that.

Incidentally, a couple years ago the guy who shot that footage put some of it on YouTube. It got pulled pretty fast (maybe a week or two after it went up) but I managed to watch all of what he put up (like 5 or 6 songs). Imagine that movie in perfect quality. The one that really stood out was "Deep"...HFS. I wish that guy would resurface...

Oh, and Kevin, that St. Louis show is among the best of the VFC shows. I was there though too, so I'm probably biased. Grand Rapids is pretty cool too. As for 2007 shows, it's Denmark and then everything else. If you get one, that's the one you need (I'm assuming you already have the Chicago shows from August. If not, download the Vic show now!).

agreed. it's a shame there's FLAC vs. ALAC because they're conceptually the same thing. I buy from http://www.livephish.com and they now offer alac downloads.

i've been PM'ing a fellow nerd and considering setting up a music library with this setup

mp3/PearlJam/shows
alac/PearlJam/shows
flac/PearlJam/shows

I would have converters set up so that if i have CDs, WAVs, FLACs, etc i can convert them into the other formats and have them for waht they're good for, i.e. mp3 for itunes, etc

What's the deal with that doco, when is it due out? I remember reading about them shooting stuff in seattle for it. And on the doco, I have very low hopes for it indeed, no serious (hard or tough) questions will be asked of the band. Also, not nearly enough love for that 95' Tour film around here.

Discussion of the film itself has always been cool, just not talk of how to obtain it or posting videos of it, etc.
