album of the year? probably.

On October 5, former Sleater-Kinney frontwoman Corin Tucker will release her first solo album, 1,000 Years, via Kill Rock Stars. It's credited to the Corin Tucker band, which also features Unwound's Sara Lund and the Golden Bears' Seth Lorinczi.

Some songs on the album were originally written for the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack, but didn't make the cut. As Tucker says in a press release, "They didn't work for the movie, but I kept them anyway. The themes work exactly. The monsters, beasts and demons, all those things working on you. I think there's a lot of personal angst in that story."

A press release mentions "acoustic guitars, keyboards, interlocking percussion, even cellos and violins," so this should sound pretty different from Sleater-Kinney (or pretty different from loud Sleater-Kinney, anyway; softer songs like "The Swimmer" and "The Size of Our Love" included at least a few of those instruments).

Tucker won't tour heavily behind the record, since she's now a stay-at-home mom with two kids. But she and her band do have a few West Coast dates coming up in October, with an East Coast trek to be announced shortly. We've got those dates, as well as the 1,000 Years tracklist and cover art, below.

1,000 Years:

01 1,000 Years
02 Half a World Away
03 It's Aways Summer
04 Handed Love
05 Doubt
06 Dragon
07 Riley
08 Pulling Pieces
09 Thrift Store Coats
10 Big Goodbye
11 Miles Away

Corin Tucker:

10-07 Portland, OR - Aladdin Theater
10-08 Seattle, WA - Showbox
10-09 Eugene, OR - WOW Hall
10-11 San Francisco, CA - Great American Music Hall
10-13 Los Angeles, CA - El Rey

Sara Lund?! Interesting, I loved Unwound.

This should be good.

PM me.

After second listen, this is getting better. The song "The Big Goodbye" has a guitar/drum combo that reminds me of the PJ teaser "Of The Earth".

I think I like "Dragon" the best so far.

Going to this. Venue's like 10 blocks from my house, too! I'm really, really excited for it. Anyone want to take bets on whether or not she plays any Sleater-Kinney songs, and if so, which ones? If she does, my bet is on "Sympathy" or "Buy Her Candy".
