This severely bums me out, I was a huge fan of this guy, he was my favorite stand up working today. But you may have heard, he's had a long history of battling addiction, he suffered an overdose of prescription pills about a week ago, and wasn't able to recover.

Fuck.

I was so hoping he would recover when they had said they revived him and that he was in critical condition. This sucks so much. Its like losing Mitch Hedberg all over again.

Giraldo was a great comedian. I've been listening to Midlife Vices recently. His standup is awesome. Sad day.

RIP. :peace:

I'm not even the least bit surprised. Dude was funny, but he was also seriously fucked up. I saw him live once. He just shit on pretty much everything. Anyone that cynical isn't going to make it very long.

I only just saw Midlife Voices a couple months ago. When he notices that Jamaican guy asleep near the front row, the way he handles it was hilarious.

He'd dealt with depression and substance abuse for a long time and had two failed marriages. He was a brilliant comedian, but sadly seemed to have had a few too many demons.

This depresses me to no end. There aren't too many modern standups that I really really enjoy now that Carlin's gone. David Cross, Patton Oswalt, Maria Bamford, Brian Posehn, to name a few. Giraldo was up there. Scathingly funny stuff.

This might be the wrong place to bring it up, but brilliant never came to mind. Witty, yes, and clever, and intelligent, but the best comedians don't just take a shit on everything and everyone. It doesn't take that much just to be a miserable cynic.

honestly, how do you accidentally overdose on prescription pills these days? They tell you exactly how much to take and when and your doctor should be more than aware of what can't be mixed with what.

either way. So it goes...

Well they stressed that it was NOT a suicide attempt, and so otherwise my guess is that he was just trying to get high and went overboard. You can die of an OD from just one thing, it doesn't necessarily have to be mixed with something else that would cause a dangerous interaction.

Fuck. That's all I can think of to say right now. One of my favourite "modern" comedians and by all accounts a decent guy. Also, leaving behind 3 kids at 44 years old is depressing as fuck no matter who it is.

Those roasts just became a lot less appealing to me.

That right there describes George Carlin's last entire decade of material and it was some of the best stuff he ever wrote. Insert the adjective of your choice as you already have to describe Greg. Whatever. In the cluster of modern day comedians, he was really good and will be missed.

Please don't compare Greg Giraldo to George Carlin. That's just ridiculous.

I didn't say it was a suicide attempt. I was just saying that you're an idiot to OD on scripts.

I wasn't. I was merely pointing out that yes, some of the best comedians are incredibly cynical, like Carlin in the last years of his life. Please pay attention.

Greg Giraldo is exactly like George Carlin in so many ways.

Carlin in the last years of his life hardly qualifies as a "best comedian". In fact, he barely qualifies as a comedian at all. He basically gave occasionally witty political lecture rants.
