my wife and i were in chicago over the weekend to see ricky gervais and louis ck. we went to a place called alinea for dinner. $497 for dinner and 4 glasses of fairly cheap win. the $100 tip brought the total to just shy of $600. to be clear, that's 1/5 of my monthly take home pay, so this was a big deal. goddam awesome though. and the sex afterwards was great.

My friend dropped $600 on his birthday dinner at a Bistro in West Hollywood. Pretty great night.

Jesus... what did you eat? Would you say it was worth it?

I don't think I could ever justify spending that kinda money on one meal.

I've dropped 200 plus tip a few times for two people. But those were rare occasions, and I'm not married to her anymore so it wasn't worth it.

My dad's 60th is this Sunday. We are going to Greg Norman's Australian Grill. Prices are above average but if I get the rack of lamb and a decent bottle of wine, plus drinks before hand, I'm afraid of what it might be with me being on a tight budget and all. . .

The wife and I ate a place called "La Villa Mahana" in Bora Bora for our honeymoon. We had a secluded, outdoor table to ourselves overlooking the island's volcano and the ocean at the top of the restaurant. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban ate at the same table as us the night before.

Total for the meal (appetizers, salads, first course, second course, dessert, 1 bottle of wine, and after-dinner drinks) totaled $780. Best meal I ever had, and worth every penny.

to each his own and all, but personally i don't conceive of spending above $100 per person on a meal at today's prices. just not going to happen.
