Leavin Here

Hey, fellas, have you heard the news
Yeah, the women in this town have been misused
Yeah, I seen it all in my dreams last night
Girls leaving this town 'cause you don't treat 'em right
Oh, take a train (take a train), fly by plane (fly by plane)
Yeah, gettin' tired (gettin' tired), sick and tired (sick and tired)

All you fellas better change your ways
Yeah, leaving this town in a matter of days
Girls are good, you better treat 'em true
I seen fellas running around with someone new

Gettin' tired (gettin' tired), sick and tired (sick and tired)
Yeah, leavin' here (leavin' here), leavin' here (leavin' here)
I said leavin' here, yeah yeah yeah, don't want to leave all here
Be a while, oh yeah , oh yeah , oh yeah , oh yeah

The love of a woman is a wonderful thing (oh yeah)
Yeah, the way you treat 'em is a crying shame (oh yeah)
I tell you, fella, yeah, it won't be long (oh yeah)
Yeah, before these women they all have gone (oh yeah)

Yeah, gettin' tired (gettin' tired), sick and tired (sick and tired)
Yeah, take a train (take a train), fly by plane (fly by plane)
Yeah, gonna leavin' here, yeah leavin' here
Yeah, leavin' here, ya gonna leave all here now
Baby baby baby, please don't leave here

I wish this song was recorded a few years later than it was. Musically it's a fantastic cover and showcases why Pearl Jam is such a great cover band. This song captures the original playful spirit (in both the Holland and Who versions) while giving it a dirty grit that makes seem a bit more intense and hit a little harder. My real beef here is Eddie, who is doing his live 1995 'I need to shriek and shred even when it isn't necessary (the same thing that makes Habit so hard to listen to)' thing. It's not an interesting juxtaposition to the playful music and seems out of place. Had this been recorded later I think he would have sounded less out of place. I get that he wanted this to sound heavier, but it's maybe too much

Still, it's songs like this that make me wish pearl jam would just go spend a few days in the studio and just record a covers record.

3 stars, but I probably enjoy it more than that.

It's one of their best covers ever when Ed nails the lyrics. Seems like he flip-flops 'em around quite a bit, and unlike when he does that in say, "Whipping," this one requires him to get it right. Two versions that spring immediately to mind as favorites are Seattle '96 (I think maybe 9/16) and Katowice 2 2000.

stip, glad you occasionally put these types of songs up. This is a fun one, and while I agree with you on Ed's voice, I will say that there are some live versions that are pretty good. I can't remember the show, but Sleater-Kinney played it with them, and it was a great version. Philly 05 maybe? Anyway, I gave it four stars, only because I think it is a very well done cover.

Stip nailed the write-up.

4 stars. I love this tune.

Only seen it live once--Denver 1998, and for once it wasn't Ed who flubbed it. Stone just completely missed his solo.

OHHHHHH YEAH.

This is my favourite cover the band's ever done, I feel like giving it less than five stars would be insulting to how great it is.

I only wish they played it more - it's easy, it's fun, it even sounds great with Boom, so what's the deal?!

Love, love, love it.

4 stars, always a nice surprise live. As much as I love Corin Tucker, it was a little tough to take the PJ/S-K versions on the '03 tour, though. 11/7/95 in San Diego is the Cadillac of Leaving Heres.

5 Stars: Great change of pace and Eddie Vedder's "scratchy" voice sounds great during this song.

3 stars. But I'd give it 3.5 if I could.

never really care to hear it. kinda indifferent to it. Would rather hear an epic WHo song in the encore instead of this throwaway one.

Meh, they should just start playing Baba O'Riley more again.
