I wish this song was recorded a few years later than it was. Musically it's a fantastic cover and showcases why Pearl Jam is such a great cover band. This song captures the original playful spirit (in both the Holland and Who versions) while giving it a dirty grit that makes seem a bit more intense and hit a little harder. My real beef here is Eddie, who is doing his live 1995 'I need to shriek and shred even when it isn't necessary (the same thing that makes Habit so hard to listen to)' thing. It's not an interesting juxtaposition to the playful music and seems out of place. Had this been recorded later I think he would have sounded less out of place. I get that he wanted this to sound heavier, but it's maybe too much
Still, it's songs like this that make me wish pearl jam would just go spend a few days in the studio and just record a covers record.
3 stars, but I probably enjoy it more than that.

It's one of their best covers ever when Ed nails the lyrics. Seems like he flip-flops 'em around quite a bit, and unlike when he does that in say, "Whipping," this one requires him to get it right. Two versions that spring immediately to mind as favorites are Seattle '96 (I think maybe 9/16) and Katowice 2 2000.

stip, glad you occasionally put these types of songs up. This is a fun one, and while I agree with you on Ed's voice, I will say that there are some live versions that are pretty good. I can't remember the show, but Sleater-Kinney played it with them, and it was a great version. Philly 05 maybe? Anyway, I gave it four stars, only because I think it is a very well done cover.

4 stars, always a nice surprise live. As much as I love Corin Tucker, it was a little tough to take the PJ/S-K versions on the '03 tour, though. 11/7/95 in San Diego is the Cadillac of Leaving Heres.
