Porchball: The music was spot on. The vocals started out strong but you lost me a little bit (I was surprised, actually) during the naked and vulnerable parts of the song . It was clear you were going for feel of the original and there were places you nailed it, but there were other places where the performance actually took me out of the song a little bit--although that may just be that because the music and tone were so spot on that any place where it differed from the original really stood out
Pete: Well done on the music--playing everything is no small thing. I was playing this around a friend who was a casual fan (he knew corduroy cuz he roomed with me in college) and his comment was that the music was spot on. The vocals were not the highlight of the song next to the music
Not sure who I'm voting for yet.

Thanks Stip. I am not a singer. I try, and fail.
Your comments on the music end made me smile. Even if I get booted, that will have been worth it.
EDIT: I also just realized I sent you an overcompressed mix. Oh well.

I won't be able to until late tonight. Long day at work today. I can live with what's posted. I was just saying that compression was an issue, but no excuse for the vocals. I appreciate it though.

Nice job Pete... Awesome guitar work for sure.
Thanks man. What uke are you using? And mic? You have some serious clarity.
using a $100 mitchell concert uke...and a $75 MXL mic(kind of a cheapy). Getting ready to buy a Blue baby bottle mic. Hopefully to finish the long road I've been working on

P-Ball - really lovely sound to the vocals and uke, and a great performance all round.
Pete - Your music was awesome throughout (outro was esp strong), and I actually thought you did a decent job with the vocals. It might have been nice to have a few background vocals to cover thicken up a couple of spots. Nice work overall though.
I'll give the edge to Porchball.
I'm not sure if it's because I'm used to looking in the main thread page, but I didn't actually notice this thread until you pointed it out in the original one. Hopefully the comp won't get too overlooked here.

After listening again, I def agree with you. I put a bit too much umph to the vocal parts in places. I tend to do that..hehe. I feel like I get out of key when I try and soften my voice.

Hi, everyone. How you been? Good, good. What's that? Yeah, sorta. But it cleared up.
I'm going with P-Bally on this one. It was a pretty tough call.
I love how off-the-rails Corduroy feels. And I really dig the J-Mascis-meets-Mark-Arm quality of Pete's voice. My ears are just wanting to hear more done with those things. Pete's not sounding like Eddie is a plus to me...but rather than stick pretty close to Eddie's melody, I'd be curious to hear a completely different melody/rhythm/take...something that suits his voice like a fine tailored...uh, suit. The instrumentation is impressive...but again, I'd just like to hear a little something that differentiates it from the original. Just a personal preference, really.
P-Babs did a nice, delicate rendition of maybe the saddest song ever. What this version lacks in oh-fuck-itude, it makes up for in vulnerability. I like how raw the vocals are at the beginning. I think I'm echoing B-Stip's sentiments, but I'd prefer the performance even rougher. One that really gets under the covers of what this song feels like. But all in all, quite lovely.

Jesus how much did Porchball have to pay Bookshelf to get him to post a comment? I imagine some Facebook flowers or hugs at the minimum.
Liked P-Balls performance but the actual song is blah.
Pete's was cool...I agree with Book if you switched up the rythme of the vocals a little more I think it would have really worked. Your Dino Jr vocals are very appealing.

Going with Pete based on the outro....very dirty.
Thanks... win or lose I might go back and redo a different melody and share for the hell of it.
Digging the J Mascis references. That's a shocking and awesome compliment.

That J Mascis reference is spot on. By not singing the melody exactly like the original, it becomes something else and because the music rocks, its like a Dinosaur Jr cover of Corduroy. Killer.
Goodbye's also really cool. Great choice for a cover since its out of left field. It takes some good playing to make a uke sound really nice. Great job.
Kind of hard to pick one.
