U

THOUGHT IT WAS EASY TO FALL IN LOVE
BUT YOU, YOU, YOU
YOU'RE DIFFERENT THIS MUCH I KNOW
YEAH - YOU, YOU, YOU
IT MIGHT BE YOUR GUILE, IT COULD BE YOUR MIND
IT MIGHT BE THE WAY YOU TAKE YOUR TIME
OH, YOU, YOU, YOU

YOU - IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU
OH YOU - IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU

I NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH TO SAY
WITH YOU, YOU, YOU
I'D LIKE TO GO DEEP, BUT IS IT SAFE
WITH YOU, YOU, YOU
IT MIGHT BE YOUR NEEDS, IT COULD BE YOUR EYES
IT MIGHT BE THE WAY YOU DON'T SYMPATHIZE
OH- YOU, YOU, YOU

YOU - IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU
OH YOU - IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU

YOU BREAK LAWS AND PAY NO FINES
YOU GET YOURS THEN GET MINE

I THOUGHT IT WAS EASY TO STAY IN LOVE
BUT YOU YOU YOU YOU
BUT YOU - YES YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU
YOU - IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, YOU, YOU
AH YOU, IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU, IT'S YOU
AH YOU, YOU, YOU, - IT'S YOU
BUT YOU KNEW, KNEW KNEW

I apologize for the all caps. It must have been like that on whatever site the official site lifted the lyrics from.

I have a fairly strong dislike for this song, and I'm not sure why, or that it's fair to the song. It's likely my general dislike for this kind of pop punk stuff, and the fact that I resent not having gotten a different/better b-side for it (maybe Yield didn't produce much by way of extra songs, if this and leatherman are the best they could do).

I do think the the initial riff that starts and closes the song is actually pretty cool, with its lazy rising feel to it. The rest of the song has a vaguely pleasing vaguely head bopping feel to it. There's a bright counter melody underneath the bass and the primary guitar part that would make the song more interesting if it was higher in the mix. But the whole thing as is has a sing songy sameness to it that makes the song kind of boring

Eddie's vocals aren't bad, especially on the Lost Dogs version of the song (which I believe is different from the wishlist single, although I haven't heard that in forever and it's not on my desktop and I just don't care enough of to check) but they don't do anything for me. I generally don't like how he sounds on songs like this (see Leatherman or Supersonic too)--almost like he's trying to have fun more than actually having fun, but maybe that's just me. The most interesting parts of the song are probably the few moments when he cracks his voice, or the wavery effect added to his voice during the bridge, since if nothing else they at least break up the monotony of the performance in the rest of the song.

Lyrically the song is what it is--a guy professing his light hearted devotion to a woman he knows is no good to him/for him. Some of the lyrics are kinda clever, but they're not trying very hard, and the kind of irritating 'you you you' overwhelm them.

Leaving Here follows this one on Lost Dogs, and even though it's a more intense song, the band sounds like they're having a lot more fun and it's a much better song.

1 Star. i'd give it 0 but the song has such low expectations for itself that I can't really give it a 0. Plus I do like that opening riff

2 stars. It's harmless and sugary and kind of dumb.

2 stars.

Were the lyrics different on the original version? I remember hearing that he flipped the meaning of the song when he rerecorded the vocals. Not sure I've heard it though.

2 Stars. Pretty weak, even for a b-side.

It used to be. Then The Fixer came along.

Atually, I used to hate this a lot more than I do now. Years ago I'd have given it 0 or 1 star. Today I will give it 2.

Screw "You" Haters (see what i did there?)

4 stars to the original version, which, when it came out in ol' 98, was a nice pop surprise for a band that never really went in that direction, aka, a great b-side.

Yes. Absolutlely. And that is what makes this song so fascinaing to me. Same song. Basically, the same delivery. A couple of changed words and it's a completely different story.

I personally, like the "love" version from the "Wishlist" single better than the "hate" version from Lost Dogs. The original lyrics help justify the dripping sugary pop of the music.

Wishlist version gets 3 stars.
Lost Dogs version gets 2 stars.

Because it was the first "rare" song I ever heard live, and I'd been singing it earlier that day... I gave it 3 stars in the poll.

I also had no idea there were two versions. Shows how much attention I paid to it.

I think this was a rough sketch for a better song, particularly when it comes to the lyrics. i'd say they just never got back to it and said fuckit, put it out. Cos there is the basis of a great little song in there, Stip's right, the intro is promising, but it never got there. i don't rate this at all as it stands.

If I'm not mistaken, only two words have changed, but they imply a pretty big difference.

Thought it was easy to fall in love but you, you, you
You're different this much I know yeah, you, you, you
It might be your guile. It could be your mind
It might be the way you take your time
Oh, you, you, you

You, it's you. It's you, you, you
Oh, you. It's you. It's you, you, you

I never know how much to say with you, you, you
I like to go deep but is it safe with you, you, you
It might be your needs. It could be your eyes
It might be the way you sympathize
Oh, you, you, you

You. It's you. It's you, you, you
Oh, you. It's you. It's you you you

You break laws and pay no fines. You get yours and then get mine

I don't think it's easy to stay in love
But you, you, you, you
But you, yes you. It's you, you, you
You. it's you. it's you, you, you
Ah you
It's you (x3)
Ah you, you, you, yes you
With you, you, you, you ah

Yeah, so just a few words, but it's interesting how it changes the point of view.

Kinda cool.
