This almost has to be true for any group of five, and I'd say we've seen ample evidence of it given all of the comments we see from one band member in an interview that never come to fruition. I mean, I get the impression McCready really is interested in recording a lot and putting out an EP here or there ... but other members just aren't.
Yeah, he also put the blame for short tours on Ed and Mike. Mike obviously has health issues that affect his stamina. Who knows what Ed's issue is. He's just super sensitive?

i'd much rather have shorter tours with longer sets.
It never even occurred to me that the mammoth tours would be hard on mike.

That's old news. Ed said that they didn't want to spend more than a couple of weeks on tours away from their families. I don't remember if that was last year or this year before the European tour.

wanna know why Pj only do short tours now? just go to 1:10 in this clip. This is detuned Pj and Ed STILL cant do it
I got to 27 seconds and couldnt watch anymore
jump to 1:10...seriously..he acknowledges he cant do it and not with the usual 'aw shucks' shoulder shrug..he's actually frustrated and it's visible.
ok, for you dime.
well at least he cares. also i heard ed say on the sirius show that theyve got a lot of work to do etc and need to change their approach before they start touring/recording again, maybe he has been listening back while doing this live on 10 legs thing and realised that its not sounding that great?
another thing, i dont know if this annoys anyone else but i find it literally unlistenable when ed adds an extra syllable to every word. "when somethin's.. bro-hoke, when theres no lo-hove" arrggh. and he does it with every song. all that he needs, its ho-hooomme"

you gotta try to love again
i hear ye. He always did that though, thats part of his vocal styling for want of a better way of putting it..just hope to god they record in a lower key from now on. lots of their songs lost so much this summer cos of the downtune. It did add a new power to some others, but not many.

I don't remember him doing it before 2003 though. I hear him do it every now and again on the 03 boots but nothing really annoying like he does almost every line these days.

Maybe. I think the band, in general, still sound great but I wouldn't mind if they felt the need to change things up next time around.
I'd welcome more acoustic stuff in the set, something like those VFC 2004 setlists would be nice to see more often. A shorter electric set (12 or 13 songs), a similar number of acoustic songs and then a couple of big rockers to finish up.

I know what you mean, but yeah, I think that's just how Ed sings now. I'm sort of used to it.

I strongly disagree with this statement, sorry dime. The detuning didn't add power to anything in my opinion and to think you'd want them to record like boggles the mind.
I'm much more in favour of Ed writing vocal melodies that he can sing comfortably, he seemed to do a pretty job of that on Riot Act. That goes for older material as well, if Ed is having trouble reaching the notes I would prefer they either drop the song from the set or for Ed to change the melody rather than have the whole band tune down.

Well if they were to start dropping songs from the set he's having trouble with, we'd see a much narrower band of songs get played I think. But it's strange, his voice seems to turn on him sharply sometimes, as in that London gig..the end of Amongst the Waves(the clip is out there) is kind of a big reach with bellowing throaty notes and yet he manages it, and that Fixer clip I showed earlier, well Fixer was towards the end of the set so perhaps it's giving out on him towards the end, which would make sense 'cos he's tired, son perhaps if he got into some training for longevity?
But I agree with you, hopefully they begin to write calmer stuff that he's capable and comfortable with vocally. He has indicated(albeit jokingly) that their next record will be indulgent, i think was the word, so it'd be interesting to see if they went back to a more experimental place such as the writing on No Code.
I'd always hoped they'd get into a Neil Young kinda mellow groove as they aged, 'cos if they did that and tore their throats out less frequently it'd make it all the more powerful when they do go for it, if that makes sense? it's gonna be interesting to see where they go anyways.

The kind of music they wrote on Riot Act suited Eddie's veteran vocals perfectly, but they've since decided to write music he has difficultly reproducing live.

5 years ago i never would believe i could say this... I wish they would narrow the setlists dramatically. Im not talking same show ever night, or switching out a song or two.. but narrow it. The past couple years they have burned through all the rarities making them less special, and frankly made their setlists a combination on New Songs couple hits songs they have barely played and sound like shit except for the fact that OMFGGGGTHEYREPLAYING________AWESOME!"

Yeah, given the choice, I'd rather see Pearl Jam play their best songs and perform them well than be able to run breathlessly to the internet after a show and crown myself King Awesome because I saw (insert under rehearsed mediocre rarity here).

I'd be for them narrowing the set-lists but it would be strictly based on their ability to play them well. I still suspect the way ed's voice is now, they could do a show of no code/yield/binaural songs, as long as they were well practiced, and make it sound great.

I never really noticed this downtuning stuff you guys are all upset about. I can hear it when you point it out but it doesn't jump out at me on the few boots I listen too (but I don't listen to many boots)
