STOOLS FOOL SOX

Workers at a Hudson Valley furniture maker got in a good-natured jab at the Red Sox Nation this week by delivering 72 custom-made bar stools and chairs to a Fenway Park sports bar with "Made in Hudson New York by New York Yankee Fans" stickers adorning several of them.

Les Lak, CEO of LB Furniture Industries, said his workers decided to pull the good-natured prank because he is a lifelong Sox fan and paid particularly close attention to the order — checking on it every day.

"That's something I don't usually do, but I was making sure they were done exactly to the specifications," said Lak, who noted that his workers, a bunch of diehard Yankees fans, were giving him a little grief about his over-attentiveness.

So after Lak did a final inspection and before the order was packed, the workers at the 60-year old company decided to customize the company label affixed to the underside of each seat by slapping the sticker on it.

Construction workers at the Beantown pub, scrambling to get the joint ready for opening day, were not impressed.

"They went crazy, screaming and yelling, and telling Patrick Lyons, the pub owner, not to accept delivery and to send them back," Lak said, after getting a briefed on the situation by his salesman, who was on the scene
.

Luckily, Lyons, who knows Lak is a fellow Sox supporter, calmed things down. He unpacked the stools and seats and the Game On pub is expected to open for Fenway's season opener Monday.

To get back at the Yankee fans at LB Furniture, Lyons sent them a photo of the final out of last year's American League Championship Series, won by Boston in seven games.

Ouch!

While the photo sure brought back bad memories for the Yankee stalwarts at LB Furniture, they are sure to get the last laugh: It'll take Red Sox fans years to live down the fact that Yankee fans produced something so near and dear to Fenway.

No one was answering the phone at the pub yesterday afternoon.

Known for its custom upholstery, LB Furniture has had other brushes with famous venues. It has made chairs for The White House and Smith & Wollensky and for TV shows like "The West Wing" and "The Sopranos."

"I'm going to send a letter to George Steinbrenner and let him know about how avid a bunch of Yankees fans we have here," said Lak. "And also ask him where he's buying his chairs from."

the best way to fit 4 yankee fans on 1 of those stools is to turn it upside down

So, the joke was ... they put a sticker on the bottom of the stools? That's lame. Sending the photo back to them was even more lame.

The funniest thing is that I don't think I've ever seen a Yankee fan get pissed off because a Sox fan was giving him shit. They just laugh it off.

we'll test that May 29th at yankee stadium.... something tells me that's not true. On the other hand last year when i went to the stadium my friends and i got insults thrown @ us for the first 6 innings, in particular from one drunk yankees fan. It went on for half the game, before fellow yankee fans got in the guys face because he was annoying everyone around (while we just laughed and ignored him). and then after the sox won in extra's we saw a 16 year old kid with his dad get knocked out by a 20 something year old guy.... simply because he had a tom brady shirt on (reason 4778 why i hate NYC).

You are basing things on a few assholes. Every stadium has a few classless assholes get over it.

I live in New York, actually about half an hour away from the company or whatever that made these stools. Trust me, tons and tons Yankees fans are just as sensitive as Sox fans.

As someone who isn't a Yankee fan, all I heard for years was how great the Yankees were. Any time I would show that it bothered me, every Yankee fan I knew would find great pleasure in it. Now, the second I mention anything about the 2004 ALCS and the Yankees' massive choke, they flip out on me worse than I've ever seen someone get pissed over sports.

It depends where you are, I suppose, but I know dozens of Yankees fans (95% of the baseball fans I know), and all but a few of them are complete crybabies when they want to be.

Yankees fans and Sox fans are exactly the same. They just wear different colors.
