It's interesting that you framed this question using the past tense.

It assumes a statement by stip in the original thread that Pearl Jam is "on it's way back up," but "now" and "in the future" are answers worthy of debate IMHO.

My post from the other thread:

I personally think the band started to go downhill after Vitalogy. I think No Code is an overwrought early attempt to address more mature themes by a band that wasn't ready to do so, and it shows in the songs. I think half of Yield is great but half is full of middling songs. I think Binaural has very few great songs and quite a few weak ones, with its high spots being the lowest high spots of the band's career. Riot Act is overlong and full of weak songs, with even the strong songs rarely reaching their full potential.

I get these albums (I think). I feel like I understand what they were trying to do artistically. I'm just comparatively not as impressed by it.

I think S/T marks the start of an upward swing again. Half of the record is great, and even the songs that don't fully hit their mark have potential. And I think both into the wild and backspacer are excellent records. Neither is up to the quality of the first three, but i'm not expecting them to ever hit that mark again.

But even the worst Pearl jam record I still enjoy and have very few songs I loathe (there aren't really any on the main albums) and always a few I like a lot.

I'm assuming the high points and low points correspond to ed's love life. Can someone get me a chart?

Funny, I don't remember making this thread.

And I think they are hitting new lows on a daily basis, both musically and professionally.
