Ok...so today is Martin Luther King Jr. day.

I came to work today hoping that I can get away without hearing something derogatory towards MLK Jr or the civil rights movement.

...an office full of white people is surely to crack a few bad jokes. i guess i can handle that (i'm no saint when it comes to racist jokes but i draw the line somewhere).

although...after a few tasteless racist jokes over some morning coffee...

I seriously almost blew my top though when the guy that sits next to me in the office said he didn't care about the holiday because it didn't really affect him. I said "how so?". He said because he wasn't born during that time.

:?

This is the same co-worker that told me he always wanted to be a history teacher.
Ignorance is fucking bliss.

This seriously ruined my day.

So the racist jokes didn't bother you, but you're personally offended because a guy doesn't feel properly impacted to suit your needs? this is kinda backwards

I was just trying to ascertain exactly where ol' Tom draws the line with racism is all. I mean is it ok to call someone a nigger or is that too far?

just askin'

Then why did it bother you so much that he just was indifferent to the holiday because he didn't feel it impacted his life on a personal level?
