The Bad Radio record is not a good record by any measure, but it's an interesting record to go back to on occasion as part of the historical record--to see where Eddie was and highlight the moments that telegraph where he's going.
This is probably my favorite of the old bad radio tunes, and maybe the one that best showcase Eddie’s potential as a vocalist. All the things that make him what he is—the growl, the soaring possibilities, the stubborn confusion and defiant desperation—it’s all here. He hasn’t quite worked it all out yet, but he’s getting close. I particularly like how he sings ‘please please please’ in the final verse/chorus
Lyrically there is a charming youthfulness to this. Lyrics like “I am young but I’ll fight”, “Crossroads—this is my language, lead me to my own” and “I said I’ve come a long to my Messiah, please don’t lead me away” are overwrought and over the top, but you can see eddie at least begin trying to express sentiments he’ll be so much more articulate with on Ten.
Musically the song drags in places—and it certainly sounds like a band learning how to write songs (especially with the bridge, where they know they’re supposed to be writing a bridge and an outro but end tripping over themselves in place). But the main riff is actually pretty cool in a U2ish kind of way (this is the kind of song U2 would write). I think of all the bad radio songs (with the possible exception of homeless and the obvious exception of Betterman) this is the one I think I’d have most like to see the band go back and try to redevelop.
Not really a good song, but a song that hints at the possibilities of good songs to come.

I love this version...think it was from the same 08 solo show where he covered "Hurt".

This is hilariously bad and sounds pulled right out of The Joshua Tree.
