on spike TV

watched it for the first time last night

Premise

two battle tested UFC fighters have one team each. members from each team eventually fight each other, and the loser is essentially sent packing.
ufc is a combination of boxing, wrestling and street fighting. i think theres only two things youre not allowed to do, punch to the balls and to the back of the head and probably no gouging of eyes. otherise, kicking, kneeing, forearm shivers when you have your opponent on the ground are all permissable.

the two fighters who are the teams coaches are also fighting each other this week outside the reality show. should be interesting.

anyhoo....two guys last night, apparently, havent gotten along since day 1, and they are on day 22-23 as of last night. the one, chris, is whats called a striker, meaning hes a very hard puncher, while the other, josh, is a grappler, meaning he likes to scoop the opponent up and slam him to the ground, then dig in and hit while the other guy is down.

chris couldnt have talked more shit if he tried to. he talked about how its going to feel to smash in joshs teeth as he breaks his jaw, how it would feel good to cripple him and just inflict as much pain as possible. chris is also 14-0 in fights before this, and josh is only 4-0.

alot of the other fighters hate chris, but noone says nothing to him because they all know he's a little off center.

chris didnt land one solid punch and lost, and was vanquished, but he showed was a poor loser and asshole he is, by bitching at the other dude that he didnt inflict any pain whatsoever and that the guy was a pussy etc...

the showed him crying outside cause he lost and that brought a tear of joy to my heart :)

I've been watching this show, too.

It's brilliant.

What a great premise. Take a bunch of really stupid guys that are really good at fighting. That all really, really like to fight. Stick them all in a house together and make them compete to see who is the toughest.

Then feed them alcohol.

That is the last place in the world i would want to hang out.

so tonite was the finale, live tv, and much blood

diago was a shoe-in for the first match, but he annoyed the piss out of me by thanking jesus for letting him smash the other guys face in

the second match couldnt have been scripted any better if they tried. even if i think the judges fucked up the match.

forrest looks strikingly like Thomas Haden Church

both fighters came out swinging, and the first round i thought was forrests. the second round, stefan whooped his ass, bloodied his nose something fierce, and in what i thought, the third round did enough to win the decision, but the judges gave it unanimously to forrest. mind you both i thought fought tough and hard.

but the show did a good thing, and gave both a contract, which is what the winner got, along with a car, a motorcycle and a designer watch.

good job UFC

Damn, I completely forgot about the finals tonight. Looks like both of my picks won though, Deigo and Forrest. I guess there's going to be an encore showing tomorrow (actually tonight according to my time zone).

So if anyone else missed it, it the replay will be Sunday (today) at 10:00 PM EST.

Perhaps. I'll tell you what I think after I watch the encore tomorrow. Also, they gave Stephan and Kenny contracts as well? That's pretty cool. They worked their asses off too, and deserved it as well.

Damn, that sucks for Kenny. Supposedly, he wasn't even projected to get that far, but did anyway. I remember Dana talking about how he went to see another fighter, but was so impressed by Kenny that he invited him to the competition. Oh well, maybe he'll make it one day.

Josh Koscheck was my favorite. He had the best fighting style out of anyone there IMO. Some matches were complete BS. Josh should've won against Diego in the semis, and Chris should've won against Kenny. If Kenny didn't elbow Chris in the eye, Chris would've easily won.

I know I'm gonna ramble on forever, so I'll just wait for next season.

What do you mean scripted? The UFC fights are about as far from scripted as you can get... especially the Forrest-Bonnar fight last night. As someone who is a big fan of mixed martial arts in general... that was easily one of the best fights i've ever seen. Both guys showed incredible heart and determination... and it was definitely the fight of the year.

Alot of people say Bonnar won it... but I don't know. Forrest won the first round by a hair, same with Bonnar and the second round... and than the third round, I think Forrest just barely squeaked by. If Bonnar landed that spinwheel kick towards the end, it would've been over I think. But it was an incredible fight, and Dana White couldn't have asked for a better display of what the UFC is about, on the first cable showing of their product.

Ken Shamrock vs. Rich Franklin went as expected... it's just a shame Shammy slipped towards the end. I really thought he had Franklin with the heel lock.

But yeah... they are showing it again tonight at 10, and i'll be watching again just for the forrest/bonnar fight. If Anyone didn't see it last night, and wants to see something truly incredible in the world of fighting, i definitely suggest you watch it.

You're taking his words in the wrong context. He's saying that they couldn't have intentionally staged the fight and made it better or more dramatic than it was in reality. Basically, the fight kicked ass.

So I watched the fight and it was amazing. I can't believe how much punishment they were giving/receiving, and they stayed on their feet almost the entire fight. I can't really call a winner, it was too close. Now that I've seen it, I'm glad they gave Stephan a contract, and I understand why Kenny didn't get one. The UFC sees a lot of potential in both Forrest and Stephan, and a rematch could be a big draw for the promotion.

Yea, looking back on it, it looks like I did take his words out of context. ::in best alicia silverstone impression:: ... My Bad.

But yea. Stephan definitely deserved a contract. The Diego/Florian fight definitely went as expected... and I still don't know if I like Diego or not. I guess he's alright, I just really want him to get brought down to reality after a beatdown from Trigg or Matt Hughes. And It's really too bad what happened to Shammy against Rich Franklin. It may be time for him to hang up his boots... even though he was impressive getting that heel lock on. It's just a shame he slipped right into a ground and pound.

A rematch between Forrest and Bonnar would definitely be huge for the company. I'm patiently waiting for the ratings to come out for the finale... and maybe more than that, the ratings to come out for the encore presentation of it. I'm sure alot of people, like myself, tuned in again just to see the Forrest and Bonnar fight again. I can't wait for the next season of the Ultimate Fighter... apparently they are only doing middleweights and heavyweights this time around, so it should prove to be interesting. I'm wondering if they'll let people from the first season back in... I wouldn't be surprised to see Leben again.

That was the best fight I've ever seen. I cannot believe they were both still standing after that.

it really makes an impact on ya, doesn't it? I've never caught myself still thinking about a fight hours after I watched it.

If the UFC could guarantee at least one fight with that much excitement per broadcast, I would start ordering the PPV's every time.

I watched the fight on Saturday and I was jumping up and down on the couch yelling and screaming because I was enjoying the fight that much. There are few moments in UFC history that I can recall enjoying as much as that fight.

2 contracts was the only option. Nobody could detract from that amazing performance. If I was Forest, I would sell the car, bike and watch and split the $$ with Stefan.

The problem with the UFC is that they do have bouts with just as much excitement every show, they just don't last as long. Why? Because the guys don't have the heart.Take Chuck Liddell vs. Vernon White. Both Steffan and Forrest took many punches that looked just as hard as the one that knocked out White. He just didn't want it enough. THere isn't as much incentive to do good when you're already at the big stage.

That said... i've downloaded Forrest/Bonnar, so if anyone wants to see it again, or for the first time, they can pm me.
