I'm getting old and I'm not very hip. I'm just not finding any new kick ass rock and roll bands that I can dig. I'm a huge metal head but I love good rock music. I've heard stuff but some of these newer bands like Kings of Leon but its mostly shit from what I've heard. Not feeling this idie rock stuff people recommend. I loved Them Crooked Vultures but Queens of the Stone Age are not really doing it for me. I'm a big fan of mainstream rock from the late 60's through the mid 90's. GnR, Van Halen, Zeppelin, The Who, Sabbath, as well as a lot of the first and second wave "grunge" bands like PJ, AIC, Nirvana, Screaming Trees, etc.

So any suggestions?

sorry i cant help you out with 'bands' cuz there are very few bands outside of pj and the beatles who music i like 80% of. otherwise its just one song here or there. good luck with your search because there is nothing better than hearing a new song you end up loving.

Yeah, I hadn't felt like I felt when I first heard TCV since hearing Ten back in 1992.

Not a new band but one maybe you haven't heard of that fits with the bands you seem to like....DOWN.

most of the bands Jack White's involved with might be relevant to your interests.

"Newer" is a loose term but here's a few you may like:

White Stripes
The Strokes
Black Keys
Modest Mouse
Muse
Radiohead
Mars Volta

I don't listen to any metal anymore but I would go see Down if I had a chance. I saw Superjoint Ritual in 2003 and it was a great time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYtmjzH3 ... re=related

Magnolia Electric Co. is also fantastic:

You know who is really in tune with the more mainstream sounding "newer rock?" theplatypus. He doesn't come to Other Bands often, so I would recommend just sending him a PM for some recommendations.

That Mclusky Do Dallas album might scratch you where you itch. It's not quite new (the band's broken up), but they're good, energetic, aggressive rock a-la early Pixies.

How about that Harvey Milk album from a couple of years ago? That's pretty metal-ish. Fat, beefy riffs.

If you're into earnest singer-songwriter rock then Alejandro Escovedo should be right up your alley. I'm listening to Real Animal right now. It's pretty good.

Then there's the Japandroids album but that's probably a little too catchy/peppy for what you're looking for. I do love it though, gets me pumped.

You could also try Drive-By Truckers. But of course they're a lot more melancholy and country-tinged.

Basically this post is useless.

Actually, Tame Impala is a great recommendation, considering your tastes.

Baroness' Blue Record came on shuffle today and I thought about this thread.
