Anyone have experiences with either or both? Looking into this market, and looking for personal suggestions. Or, is it just as good to plug your laptop into your tv and use the netflix/hulu/ondemand services through your computer?

If I had added Apple TV to the discussion, would this be the correct forum? Cuz there's a huge iPhone discussion a couple of threads down from this one.

Almost bought the Roku with the usb on it. I kept putting it off for some reason and then heard about the WD Tv Live Hub. Really considering this now.

I've got 2 WDTV Live's up and running in my house and I wouldn't trade them for anything. One is hard wired to my network downstairs in the living room and the other is connected via Wireless N in the bedroom. These things play just about any file you can throw at them including all of my HD MKV's stored on my NAS. With Wireless N I'm even able to stream 1080P DTS movie files, obviously your network setup/range may differ from this though.

I have a roku that I bought right before they got new units, the wireless connection is inconsistant, but if you ethernet it or maybe the new ones work it'd be rant and rave material. I got hulu plus, netflix, and nasa channel, what else could I need?

Man, they really will give anyone an internet connection these days.
Just got a Roku XDS and I love it, but these things do seem pretty buggy. Setup should have been a breeze but I ran into a few glitches that seem to plague a ton of people, so it wound up taking about a half hour. My player wouldn't connect to the Roku server and locked me into a dead end menu. I had to google the factory reset code and start the whole process over twice. All (presumably) because I plugged an ethernet cable in after I set up the wireless connection. Also I kept getting the "unsupported mode" message from my tv until I plugged and replugged my hdmi cables a few times.

I got one too. Just signed up for Netflix.
What I really want to do is find a way to play FLACs on it. Whether I have to play them directly on the device via usb or stream them from my pc doesn't matter.

i fucked around trying to set up streaming video from my computer to the roku and onto the television, but it's looking like i'd have to convert everything to mp4 format. fuck that, using the tivo box is easier.

I got my mom a Roku for Christmas. I hooked it up, signed-up for a Roku account and Netflix account in under a half-hour. I played with it and was impressed. I would recommend.
