By the way I am instructing you to "Go" but that's also my answer. I was listening to Vs earlier today (doesn't happen very often) and during "Go" I couldn't help thinking man that's a good riff.

Im having a difficult time with this.

Although I think Do The Evolution may be my favorite, it might not be my answer for this particular thread. The overall song is top notch and its a great riff but....

Hmmm

Alive.
At least as an opening riff. Although Jeremy is close.

Given To Fly. I'd also say Do The Evolution, Go and Alive, but they were mentioned.

Satan's Bed. Probably not the best, but I really like it.

Me too. It's got that weird demented-beach-party feel to it.

That's a good way to describe it. So weird, yet so catchy.

Satan's Bed. Became my favorite song on Vitalogy the second I heard that riff. Tremor Christ is a close second.

I don't think Hail Hail or Brain of J. are really "riffs" in the strict sense, however much I like them.

Hard to go past the opening to Alive - that's as iconic a riff as anyone's ever written.

My personal favourite would have to be Animal, though the riff during the bridge in Alone is pretty great.

Early 90s Stone Gossard: King of Riffs.

While I can't crown him the riff king I wish we had some more early 90's Stone riffs.
