Ever heard Eddie Vedder sing Neil Diamond? That alone is reason to check out Song Sung Blue, an alternately hilarious and heartwrenching documentary that screened at IFF Boston. The movie follows the ups and downs of a husband-and-wife Neil Diamond cover band called Lightning and Thunder. Vedder joined the "America's Singing Sweethearts" on stage at Milwaukee's Summerfest in 1995 for a rousing rendition of "Forever In Blue Jeans," a Diamond classic that Vedder needed a cheat sheet to sing. The performance was certainly a highlight of Lightning and Thunder's career, but there's much more to the duo than their on-stage personas.

That Neil Diamond impersonation was one of Will Ferrell's better bits.

I remember that show (and that particular part of the show) like it was yesterday. It was hilarious because Lightning and Thunder used to perform on Thursday nights at Lakeview Links in Chicago, and we knew them from seeing them a bunch of times there. So when Ed introduced them at the Milwaukee show, we laughed our asses off.

If you ever get a chance go to a Neil Diamond show, you won't be disappointed.

I went through a huge Neil Diamond phase in the early 2000s. He's the greatest.

Agreed. Time your pee break for the Jonathan Livingston Seagull montage.
Neil Diamond is my guilty pleasure music of choice.

A friend of mine had tickets and offered me one, but my parents wouldn't let me go. They thought I was too young (13) at the time. I didn't hit my rebellious stage until a few years later, unfortunately.
