This album is as good the last, but completely different. It doesn't make as many big statements as TSSK did. It's understated and subtle in a way Radiohead hoped their album would be. Elbow does it with style. There's always so much depth and space in their music, always so much to take in. The lyrics here are quite moving, there's a real humanity and warmth evoked which is really rare in music these days. It doesn't scream 'like me' and is completely honest.

I'm loving the fuck out of this album. The instrumental/bridge leading into the outro of 'Neat Little Rows' gives me goosebumps. Well, lots of this gives me goosebumps. The lyrics of 'Open Arms' are the best lyrics I've heard for a long time.

And the way the whole of 'Open Arms' is like a giant massive pre-chorus, and the drum fill builds and builds and builds the whole way through, stretches like an elastic band but NEVER SNAPS... NEVER LETS GO... because of it DID let go, it'd be a Coldplay song. That's the genius of this song. That's the genius of this album, actually. Professional and brilliant restraint. If this post looks like a drunk rambling it's because this album is like a wonderful, brilliant, giant drink.
