Hey,
If/when Pearl Jam tours, I want to take my dad, a big Rock & Roll and concert fan, to a show in NY. I have been listening to Pearl Jam since they came out, and he never really showed interest in them, but never disliked them either. I want to make a CD for him with the songs he would like the most, so maybe he can understand my obsession a bit and enjoy the concert more...
He and I share much of the same music taste otherwise....he is a huge, huge Springsteen fan, but also loves the Beatles, the Who, Neil Young, CSNY, Aerosmith, Beach Boys, Allman Brothers, Clapton, Tom Petty, Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, etc... and also oldies and doo wop...and a whole bnubh of other hippie music and classic rock....
He loves concerts, so I would want to use either album or live songs...
He was at the Oct 13 Springsteen show in NJ and like Betterman when it was performed with Eddie, and said he now keeps PJ on when he ctaches it on the radio...
So what would you recommend to fill an 80 minute CDr????

Make sure I Got ID and RVM are on it, no matter what.

I actually had a similar situation back during the winter. My girlfriend's Stepdad and I are actually pretty good friends and he knows of my love for Pearl Jam. Anyway, we were having a conversation one night and I mentioned part of the lyrics to "Light Years" and he thought it was the coolest thing ever. Of course, he thought I had come up with it which I soon corrected for him but he decided that he had been missing out and needed to hear some of their stuff.
I obsessed over it for a while, trying to think of things he might enjoy and came to the conclusion that "rearviewmirror" was actually a pretty decent overview, and I substituted a lot of songs out that I didn't agree with and that was the mix.

I'd go heavier with some earlier stuff
Even flow (rerecorded)
Alive
Black
Release
RVM
Dissident
Daughter
Eldelry Woman
Corduroy
Betterman
Long Road
I Got Shit
Smile
Red Mosquito
In Hiding
Given To Fly
NAIS
Light Years
I Am Mine
Down
Not sure if all this would fit. Some of the great live covers they've done (baba o riley/rockin in the free world) would probably go over well

79:56!!!!! Barely fits on a CD!
Here's my GH mix I made for a special girl I saw for the first time in 5 years last year:
Even Flow
Alive
Jeremy
Black
Go (intro completely cut)
Daughter
RVM
BetterMan (feedback intro completely cut)
Cudoroy
Hail Hail
Off He Goes
Lukin
Given To Fly
Wishlist
DTE
Nothing As It Seems
Grievance
Save You
I Am Mine
If done properly, the total time should be 79:56. I know it doesn't include YL, but it's still a real greatest hits that contains tracks from each record.

I think you should put a couple of covers on there.
Your dad may be able to identify with them a bit more if he realizes that they identify with some of your dad's tastes in music.

My dad's in his mid 40s and seems to have the same taste in music as yours. I gave him a copy of Benaroya Hall and he said he listens to it all the time in his truck. I know his favorites are Evenflow, Jeremy, Off He Goes, Small Town, I Am Mine...

My Dad likes classic rock but is a huge PJ fan too. His favorites are Breathe, Faithful, Nothingman, Jeremy, State of Love and Trust, Rearviewmirror, and I Got Id.

Check out the songs they have played at the Bridge Benefit shows. My mom - not a rock fan - has gone a few times and has really enjoyed Pearl Jam/Eddie solo when they have played. In fact, she asked for a copy of the bridge shows for Christmas. The crowd here is so mixed, they seem to chose songs that they think will appeal to a broad audience. Worked on my mom.

Why would you drop Tremor Christ on a non-fan? That's just mean.
Might as well make a disc of
