More people definitely should listen to Cloudkicker. This guy comes up with some mind blowing riffs.
My personal fave:
Don't know if they've been mentioned in these forums before, but another band called Animals as Leaders is much deserving of attention as well. A guy named Tosin Abasi does the guitar/bass with another cat programming drums/percussion.

I didn't know what "djent" was...had to look it up. Still not sure I understand, but it is supposedly something to do with a guitar tone...? Can you give me a specific riff (maybe a youtube video) that typifies the style?
Anyways, I picked up Animals as Leaders (Tosin's band) last week for $8.99 on Amazon and have been very impressed.
Also, there are a few new Cloudkicker projects out there that I need to pick up. I think he cut some new stuff late last year.

yeah i think it's sort of a loose descriptor for bands that incorporate that sound or guitar tone. it's that really punchy 7-string meshuggah kind of sound (the term djent being an onomatopoeia for it). The opening riff of Dysphoria that i posted up there is a pretty typical djent sound i think, or at least that's my understanding of it. To be honest Meshuggah and Cloudkicker were my only real references when i first heard the term too - i had no idea it was even a thing. I dug around a little and listened to a few other bands who are apparently pretty big in the genre, if it even is that. Chimp Spanner and Periphery were ok but nowhere near as awesome as Cloudkicker. Periphery's record is actually pretty decent if you can find the version without the horrendous vocals.

Get Beacons if you don't have it already. A New Heavenly Body is just a reworked version of ]]][[[.

Fuck, that sounds cool. And its like a singer would almost ruin it.
yeah a singer is really unnecessary here. there is a lot going on in the music so it would probably just get lost in the mix.
I really love this new record. I'm hearing a lot of Siamese Dream-era Pumpkins and Mogwai influences which is very much a good thing. it's got a dreamy shoegaze sort of vibe going on.
