Hey just wondering what you guys use to record guitar to PC. Do you hook up a mic to the pc and record or some other way?

And what gear do you use, brands etc.?

Being that this doesn't have to do with the band, I'm going to move this over to Tech Support forum.

whoa buggy, thats kind of a lot for a beginner who wants to dick around. What would you suggest as a poor man's alternative don't really care about sound quality, just looking to record my guitar, elec or acoustic so it's audible and so that I can use some cheap program to play around with it.

I'd just as soon not use a system so compatible with Pro Tools, because I don't want to have to buy a new hard drive.

I just picked up an Echo Gina3G. I have high hopes. I need a preamp though...any suggestions?

Thanks for the feedback Buggy. You're a good guy.

Do you plug your guitar directly into the preamp or do you plug a mic in and set your mic next to your guitar amp? Sorry if I'm a bit of a newb.

I have an mAudio fasttrack USB guitar interface. It has a built-in preamp, you just plug your guitar into it with a standard cable and plug it into a USB port. It works with any editing program (pro tools, adobe audition, cakewalk, etc) and it has a nice clean signal. I think it's about $100. You can plug a microphone into it too, it has a standard port for that (XLR, I believe it's called?). I usually run it through my Boss ME-50 to get effects because the software effects and distortion usually blows.

For simple editing, I reccomend Cakewalk Guitar Tracks.

Can anyone reccomend a good software plug-in (that will work with Audition) for distortion and/or effects (delay/chorus/reverb/flange/etc)? I have AmpliTube, which isn't bad, but I can't get it to work with Audition, only with cakewalk.

Hey I just bought a $20 unidirectional dynamic mic from radio shack. I used one of the adapters to plug into the back of my soundcard. I just got it to screw around and record stuff but if it turns out the the quality is so bad you can't hear it, I'll return it.

Anyways, I just put it right in front of my guitar amp and am trying to record stuff. Im using soundrecorder that came with windows, but its a piece of crap.

Is there any free software out there that would fit my needs? Also, Im looking for any advice from anyone who knows alot about recording or who has been in my shoes before. Any resources like websites or anything would be useful too. I'm looking for any info I can get a hold of. I'm a complete newb.
