What about some salt, pepper, a little butter and a touch of honey?
have you ever tried it that way beef? is it good?
I haven't but a friend of mine used to do honey carrots by steaming them first, then pan frying them in a little butter, some honey and throwing in a handful of sesame seeds. They were really good and that's coming from someone who doesn't like honey. I'm not sure what you're using the puree for but I think those flavourings would come together nicely in a pureed form.

You could also try it with brown sugar instead of honey, throw in some rosemary for flavour and sub butter for cream if you wanted. There are lots of options. Oh, and if you boil them, I'd reserve a cup or so of the cooking water to add to the puree in case you need to thin it out a little.
