From Jermaine O'Neal...

"As a black guy, you kind of think [race is] the reason why it's coming up.

"You don't hear about it in baseball or hockey. To say you have to be 20, 21 to get in the league, it's unconstitutional. If I can go to the U.S. Army and fight the war at 18 why can't you play basketball for 48 minutes?" O'Neal said.

I am a pretty Liberal minded person (Libertarian actually) but I am so fucking sick and tired of minorities crying about racism. Are they only going to limit MINORITY players from playing until 20? I don't think so. Shut the F up Jermaine. It's old.

I agree with him that there shouldn't be an age limit, but it's silly of him to say race is the motivating factor behind it.

Race may not be a motivating factor in this, but african americans will be the most directly affected by this potential restriction. Is there a word for that?

I hate to sound like a jerk but my response to that has to be: No shit!

It's obvious that it will affect blacks more than anyone else. To say it is racist is just foolish.

This is semi-related but I open the Philadelphia Daily news and there's a cover story about a black guy who has been brought up on rape charges and 7 other federal charges. He runs a tutoring program that is becoming successfull, he claims the charges are racist because he happens to be a successfull african american. I'm tired of the racism excuse. When I was a kid I used to blame all my problems and bad behavior on my mom passing away when I was a baby. As I got older I finally had to realize that I was responsible for my own actions and the excuse was old, and lame.

Which is why I asked what term you would use to describe this situation. Maybe racism isn't the right term, but what is? The age restriction (if passed) will affect african americans much more so than anybody else. Surely there's a name for that.

what jermaine o neal is failing to see tho is that the plan in the works for this is that with the Age Limit the highschool kids can STILL BE DRAFTED. they just wont be allowed to play until they're 20. they'll be in the NBDL getting their paychecks and the team that drafted them can then put them to use as soon as they hit 20.

and if the kids choose not to go that route then GASP!! they'll get free education, free clothes, and free food at a great university for 2 years. THE HORROR!!! WHOS DOES DAVID STERN WORK FOR?? THE KLAN!!!!???

good job Jermaine. thanks for screwing Jordan at the 03 all star game too.

I don't know of a term to use, it's just a company running their business. I don't think they have an ulterior motive to keep 18 and 19 year old black kids down. They are trying to better the league.

i don't think the nba should have an age limit. maybe if we were still in the time where european players didn't have such an influence in the game then i would be for a limit, but what college should a yao ming go to? dirk nowitzki? peja stojackovic?
