Seth77, I can see you are a big fan of this show. Can you please discuss the conflicts encountered by the lead characters, and how they compare to the conflicted relationship Frank Pembleton had with the lord, and Jesus Christ?

There is a conflict that exists between Frankie and Mike (mother and father on The Middle) that is similiar to the one that existed between Ray and Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond, which leads to a lot of laughs because of the tension between them based on their different personalties.
I don't know who Frank Pembleton is.

While there is no hip factor it's not a bad show, I watch it. I like the Mike & Sue characters best and the boys are usually good for a chuckle or two an episode. Frankie is actually the least interesting one to me, even with Axl being the one dimensional jock-type. If you go expecting an above average family sitcom but nothing groundbreaking or cutting edge you'll probably be satisfied.

Not only do I still watch show but I think it's gotten better this season. I wouldn't rank it as my one of favorite series and it has zero buzz-worthyness but for a family sitcom it's consistently entertaining without being dumbed down.

I don't want to piss on everyone's enjoyment of the show. I watched the whole of the first 2 seasons and could not enjoy it at all. I found the characters all rather stereotypical and derivative and it's too child centric. I can't stand Frankie's character because every episode invariably contained her becoming a flustered and overworked mother, Mike is too indifferent to everything to be funny. Sue's character's role in every episode is very predictable (apart from the whole gay boyfriend thing which was rather funny) and Brick (sp? name your kid Brick) is far too inconsistent.
I suppose it is better than Modern Family, however, which I just cannot watch.

Brick is the sole reason to watch this show. He's the only character with any enjoyable eccentricities, even if it's a bit forced.
I always thought the Janitor from Scrubs would be one of the Kramer-like roles where the actor gets typecast, so I'm glad that actor caught a second career break.
